MN GOP PRESS RELEASE: “DFL TAX KING TOM BAKK DECIDES TO RUN FOR GOVERNOR”

By Michael B. Brodkorb | June 8, 2009

FYI – This release was sent out yesterday morning.

###

Republican Party of Minnesota Chair Ron Carey today released the following statement after State Senator Tom Bakk announced in the Mesabi Daily News he would run for governor in 2010.

“Coming off proposing more than $2 billion in tax increases that would impact 85% of Minnesotans, Tom Bakk has decided to run for the DFL endorsement.  While tax increases and massive expansion of growth in state government might play well in a DFL Primary, Minnesotans want a governor who will find ways to ensure state government is lean, effective, and is focused on making Minnesota a job-friendly state by lowering the tax burden.  Tom Bakk will be just another tax-and-spend liberal Democrat looking to raid the pocketbooks of working Minnesota families and businesses.”

Tom Bakk’s Senate Tax Bill Included $2.2 Billion Across The Board Income Tax Increase. “The Senate tax bill would raise the lowest rate, 5.35 percent, to 6 percent on income of up to $31,860 for married couples filing jointly. The middle rate would rise from 7.05 percent to 7.7 percent on income between $31,860 and $126,580. The current top rate would climb from 7.85 percent to 8.5 percent on income of $126,850 to $250,000. The new fourth-tier rate of 9.25 percent would apply to incomes starting at $250,000 for married couples, $141,250 for single taxpayers and $212,500 for single heads of household.” (Staff Reports, “Senate DFLers Want 4 Years Of Across-The-Board Income Tax Hikes,” Star Tribune, April 21, 2009)

The Senate DFL Tax Bill Would Raise Income Taxes On 85% Of Minnesotans. “The senate bill increases income taxes on 85 percent of Minnesotans. It would also create a new income tax rate of 9.25 percent for joint filers earning more than $250,000 a year.” (Tom Scheck, “Senate Passes $2 Billion  Tax Increase,” MPR, April 24, 2009)

I could never support a guy with a goatee. It’s a deal breaker for me.

  2. chile Says:

The union boss will get lots of money from other union bosses. And he better do as they say.

Hiram, Satan has a goatee and Democrats worship him.

  3. Hiram Says:

“Satan has a goatee and Democrats worship him.”

True, but even Democrats have to draw the line somewhere.

  4. Dash Riprock Says:
    June 8th, 2009 at 10:22 AM

Did anyone see the latest from “The Messiah”? He plans on creating 600,000 new jobs this summer. What happened to the 3.5 million new jobs he promised back in December/January? The U.S. economy can’t wait until 2010-11 for Barry’s re-election campaign.

Since the passage of the stimulus bill back in February, the economy has lost 1.6 million jobs, and unemployment is now at 9.4%

Another bright spot: Obama’s approval rating has slid 4% to 55%, with the disapproval of the economy going from 30% to 42%.

Hey Leroy, you dumbass, care to offer any talking points as an explanation as to why everything is heading south in that dream world of yours?

  5. chile Says:
    June 8th, 2009 at 10:56 AM

Dash, Obama makes the unsubtantiated claim that he’s saved 150,000 jobs. That’s B.S., but even if it were true, his policies have created about 1 job, for every 11 they’ve wiped out.

Hey liberal danbrome, Obama’s approval rating will be below 40% by Labor Day. Ship it!

  6. Mr. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    June 8th, 2009 at 11:14 AM

Isn’t a 55 percent approval rating still a majority of the country?

George Bush left office with an approval rating of about half of that.

How is that for a talking point?

  7. chile Says:
    June 8th, 2009 at 11:19 AM

Paul Koering announced on KSTP 1500 that he is keeping the “door open” to make a run for Governor.

He definitely wouldn’t be a top tier candidate, but the openly gay Senator might draw support from moderate gays, or possibly liberal gays like danbrome.

  8. Mr. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    June 8th, 2009 at 11:32 AM

…and he will allow the republican party to push more and more people away, as the fear of gays has largely disappeared everywhere but in the republican party platform.

  9. Dash Riprock Says:
    June 8th, 2009 at 11:35 AM

Leroy, you dumbass, Obama’s approval rating is going down along with the economy, and unemployment is going up. Aren’t these the same questions you had no answers for last week, but continued to support Barry?

Please tell us how this is going to be reversed based on your leader’s plans.

  10. chile Says:
    June 8th, 2009 at 12:10 PM

Leroy, you jackass. Republicans don’t fear gays, we just don’t thing they should be given special rights.

We need less affirmative action, not more. Affirmative action has become a cornerstone for modern day socialism.

  11. Chris Says:
    June 8th, 2009 at 12:19 PM

    Mr.,

Wow, well I didn’t realize that 52.24% of Californians were Republican. That is the margin Proposition 8 passed by. Since California is such a Republican state, I’d expect the state to go Red in 2012!

  12. Mr. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    June 8th, 2009 at 1:35 PM

You want my answer to how Obama is going to fix the economy?

    I don’t know.

But I have a hell of a lot more faith in a president who recognizes that there is a problem and tries to fix it than his predecessor who hid his head in the sand and pretended nothing was wrong.

Obama is attempting a number of policy initiatives that may help fix this thing. They may also be miserable failures, and we may fall deeper and deeper into the recession. I just know that the war on the Bush economy is like Bush war on terror. Either you are with us, or you are against us.

I don’t think you quite understand the inherent problems in rooting politically for the economy to fail.

  13. Chris Says:
    June 8th, 2009 at 3:38 PM

    Mr.,

Once again, when your assertions are apporpriately challenged, you change the subject.

President Obama’s cure for the economy is like giving a sick person Clark Stanley’s famous Liniment.

  14. Mr. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    June 8th, 2009 at 4:15 PM

Which of my assertions was challenged, let alone appropriately challenged?

You all are trying to be Brad Radke of old around me. Nibble around the outside of the plate knowing that if you put anything over the middle, it will get to the upper deck quickly. You pretend like you ask questions, and then pretend like I am avoiding something by not answering a question that was never asked.

  15. Mr. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    June 8th, 2009 at 4:18 PM

What assertion of mine was challanged, let alone appropriatley challenged?

You all are playing Brad Radke on me. Nibble around the outside of the plate knowing full well that anything tossed over the middle is going to get tattooed into the upper deck.

Your new tactic seems to be to pretend you ask a question, and then accuse me of being deceptive for not answering a question that was never asked.

  16. Chris Says:
    June 8th, 2009 at 4:31 PM

    Mr.,

Your assertion that only Republicans have an issue with Gay marriage. You know, over 52% of Californians just voted last November to define marriage between a man and a woman. Using your logic, 52% of California (a majority) are Republicans.

  17. Mr. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    June 8th, 2009 at 4:49 PM

    Chris-

No. I would say that 52 percent of Californians are either anti gay marriage, or chose not to vote on that question, and as such, had their vote count as a no vote.

There were hundreds of thousands of people who, for whatever reason, chose not to vote on the question.

I would say that 61 percent of California voting for Obama is a much more direct testament to the strength of the democratic party in California than were the results of Prop. 8.

  18. Chris Says:
    June 8th, 2009 at 5:04 PM

    Mr.,

Once again you’re moving the target. And with no point. The votes in favor of Prop 8 were 7,001,084 while the votes against Prop 8 were 6,401,482. There were an additional 340,611 blank or invalid votes on the measure. Even if you counted every single spoiled ballot as a no, the proposition still would have passed by a margin of 7,001,084 to 6,742,093. I’d note that Obama received 8.2 million votes to McCain’s 5 million votes.

Personally, I don’t care about the strength of the Democratic party in California as much as I do about the fact that Proposition 8 was passed because of Democrats (and Obama voters).

  19. Pete F Says:
    June 8th, 2009 at 6:03 PM

Facts. What will Leroy do now…

  20. job10 Says:
    June 8th, 2009 at 10:14 PM

Mr. sounds like your support for Barry is starting to slip….. “faith in a president who … tries to fix it”

Hmmm, just “tries” – I was under the impression that you were promising that Barry is the savior, for sure?

  21. Pete F Says:
    June 8th, 2009 at 10:46 PM

Only the hardcore flav-o-aid drinkers are still convinced that Obama is taking the right steps. Many of his former supporters have become less sure of their initial thoughts that Obama is the “Messiah”. Obama is showing himself to be less concerned about the US than he is about the rest of the world.

Obama is a one term President in the same mold as Jimmy Carter (or is he more like his brother Billy?). Unfortunately we will all have to suffer through this presidency for a few more years.

  22. danbrome Says:
    June 8th, 2009 at 10:47 PM

“He definitely wouldn’t be a top tier candidate, but the openly gay Senator might draw support from moderate gays, or possibly liberal gays like danbrome.”

God dammit chile, would you phucking stop calling me a liberal gay man?

I am a happily married heterosexual moderate Democrat. I take serious pffense at your slanderous attacks, now KNOCK IT OFF you bastard.

  23. danbrome Says:

    chile..

“Leroy, you jackass. Republicans don’t fear gays, we just don’t thing they should be given special rights.”

I guess that says it all.

Do you perhaps think gays should be give EQUAL rights?

Your answer will confirm your blatent bigotry.

  25. danbrome Says:
    June 8th, 2009 at 10:56 PM

    pete..

“Many of his former supporters have become less sure of their initial thoughts that Obama is the “Messiah”.

That statement is pure crap, with no basis in fact. I suggest you think before posting more BS like this in the future.

As if you have ANY CLUE about what President Obama’s supporters are thinking..

    LOL !!

  26. danbrome Says:
    June 8th, 2009 at 10:58 PM

    Pete…

Can the readers here assume that you are rooting for President Obama to fail?

It would be in our best interest to have him succeed in stabilizing the economy, no?

  27. Mr. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    June 9th, 2009 at 12:06 AM

    Chris-

Study after study show that kids today are not embracing the homophobia that was rampant even within the previous generation. Old republicans still cling to it like a crutch, but when it becomes time to grow the party, you are going to have to decide if you will allow Paul Koering in the tent, or if you will jettison him and everyone else who understands that homosexuality is as much a choice as eye color.

    Pete/chile/job/elton-

Anyone who guarantees that their economic plan will work is either a crook or a liar. I don’t know if Obama’s plans will work, but it beats the alternative which is republican fear mongering and inaction.

  28. job10 Says:
    June 9th, 2009 at 1:14 AM

    “I don’t know if Obama’s plans will work…”

    More back tracking by Mr.

The beginning of fall of Democrats has begun in NY, where the Republicans took over the senate, the democrats (acting like our MN DFL children) turned out the lights and ran out the door.

    xttp://wcbstv.com/breakingnewsalerts/malcolm.smith.senate.2.1036194.html

    Republican victory in 2010!

  29. Chris Says:
    June 9th, 2009 at 1:24 AM

    Mr.,

I’d note that Paul Koering is a twice endorsed Republican. The notion that he isn’t in the GOP tent is asinine.

I’d also note that millions of Obama voters in liberal California voted to define marriage as between one man and one woman. It’s not just the GOP that has an issue with gay marriage. Further, Obama said he supported the defense of marriage act and has done nothing thus far to advance GLBT issues — including ending Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.

If you are an advocate for gay issues, it seems your beef is with the Obama administration and his voters with California who are supporting traditional marriage. It will be interesting to see if you can answer the issue of Democrats’ bigotry on gay marriage this time without bringing up your own bigotry against the GOP.

  30. Chris Says:
    June 9th, 2009 at 1:26 AM

    brome,

If you’re going to use the “F” word, please use it correctly.

I find it interesting that you claim to be happily married to a woman in the same sentence where you claim to be a moderate. Since I’ve now asked you eleven times to name a moderate position you hold, and you’ve failed to answer each time, your assertion about being heterosexual holds as much water with me as your assertion of being a moderate. Not that there’s anything wrong with being a homosexual.

  31. Bats Right Throws Right Says:
    June 9th, 2009 at 1:30 AM

Leroy Jenkins. Who is studying the degree to which kids are “embracing homosexuality?”

I’m not surprised money would be wasted on asking kids what they think about gays and lesbians. After all, homosexuality is now taught in public schools, along with music and math.

Last I checked, Senator Koering is still a Republican. I don’t see the Democrats welcoming him into their tent.

  32. Bats Right Throws Right Says:
    June 9th, 2009 at 1:34 AM

dan brome, have you heard of gamma?

?gamma supports gay men in heterosexual marriages at every stage of their sexual self-recognition.”

  33. Chris Says:
    June 9th, 2009 at 1:53 AM

    P.S. brome,

I find it hilarious that you consider being called a homosexual slander and at the same time call people who oppose gay marriage bigots. If you consider homosexuality to be something damaging to your reputation then aren’t you the bigot?

  34. Dash Riprock Says:
    June 9th, 2009 at 8:07 AM

    brome,

USA Today poll May 29-31. Only 45% approve of Obama’s handling of federal spending and 46% handling of the deficit. That’s less than half brome, but you knew that because of your math degree right?

I know you don’t like facts and figures, but you can keep fooling yourself if you want.

Wait until unemployment hits 10%, his ratings will plummet, and everyone I’ve heard says this will happen in the next few months. This administration has lost all credibility since they predicted the unemployment rate wouldn’t go past 8.2% and it just dropped a half point to 9.4%

2010 is looking good for the GOP and Obama is looking worse than Jimmy Carter every day. So much for hope and change.

  35. chile Says:
    June 9th, 2009 at 8:38 AM

Yes danbrome, I believe you should have the same rights as heterosexuals. I don’t think you should have the right to marry another dude.

danbrome, by calling those opposing same-sex marriage “bigots”, you’ve place that label on the majority of Americans – including millions of your fellow liberal democrats.

The cowardly Assboy Madia ran on a pro-gay marriage platform, calling it “family values.” That is why the voters determined that he is “not one of us.”

  36. Mr. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    June 9th, 2009 at 9:24 AM

Never said kids are embracing homosexuality. I simply said they are rejecting the fear that is more prevalent among old people and republicans.

Kids today are smart enough to know that gay marriage does not threaten the institution of straight marriage, and if it does, chances are you are married to a gay person already.

I think when Sen. Koering sees that the fiscal conservatism that he embraces has left the Minnesota republican party, he may have a much easier time leaving their shrinking tent for a much larger one across the aisle.

  37. chile Says:
    June 9th, 2009 at 11:00 AM

Leroy, you jackass. Are kids embracing homosexuality or aren’t they?

Tell us Leroy, how is being an outcast scoutmaster any different than it was a generation ago?

  38. Chris Says:
    June 9th, 2009 at 11:06 AM

    Mr.,

Thanks for once again dodging the issue that millions of Obama voters in California voted to define marriage as between one man and one woman. In fact, exit polls show that 36% of Democrats voted in favor of Prop 8. And 70% of blacks voted for the measure, as did 56% of union members.

  39. GadZooks Says:
    June 9th, 2009 at 11:22 AM

I recently saw a video of Senator Bakk appearing at a union rally at a saint paul Walmart.

Although merely an unsubstantiated observation, I couldn’t help but think that he looked like just the sort of fellow one might see throwing nails in the driveway of a business being picketed. A classic union thug.

I think we’ve had more than enough of that.

  40. Mr. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    June 9th, 2009 at 11:35 AM

    Chile-

I never said kids are embracing homosexuality, and you reposting that won’t change the fact. I said that they are less bigoted than older people and republicans.

    Chris-

You are right. A majority of Californians voted to support Proposition 8, including some democrats. This does not change my thesis.

The proposition was overwhelmingly rejected by voters under the age of 29, and, to use your same data resource, 54 percent of independents, 16 percent of McCain supporters and 18 percent of self-described republicans voted against it.

  41. Chris Says:
    June 9th, 2009 at 11:48 AM

    Mr.,

The fact that millions of Democrats voted for traditional marriage in California does change your thesis. You claim that Republicans hate gays and Democrats do not. But it was Democrats who put Prop 8 over the edge. I’d also quibble with your premise that someone who believes in traditional marriage hates gays. Even liberals like danbrome take offense from being called a homosexual.

  42. chile Says:
    June 9th, 2009 at 12:00 PM

Leroy, you jackass, I don’t think claiming that Republicans and old people are bigots is much of a thesis.

Of course Leroy, you jackass, how exactly is this “your thesis”, when “study after “study after study” shows this?

So tell us Leroy, you jackass, do you hate Mormons too?

  43. chile Says:
    June 9th, 2009 at 12:03 PM

“Even liberals like danbrome take offense from being called a homosexual.”

And of course, homosexuals like danbrome take offense at being called liberal.

  44. Mr. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    June 9th, 2009 at 12:17 PM

I never said that some democrats are not against gay marriage. I just said that democrats do not build it into their party platform as something to which all members should ascribe.

No party has 100 percent purity on any issue, as proven by nearly 20 percent of republicans voting against the gay marriage ban.

And I have never said that you hate gays. In fact, if you search the word HATE on this thread, all three times it was used, it was used by your side. I simply believe that republicans have an irrational fear of gays. What difference does it make if they get the same rights afforded to straight people? My relationship is not jeopardized by two gay people getting married.

  45. chile Says:
    June 9th, 2009 at 12:37 PM

Leroy, you jackass, please provide proof that Republicans have anymore fear – irrational or ratinal – of gays than Democrats do.

Gays have the same rights, maybe even more, than Straights.

Gays and straights have the same right to marry a person of the opposite sex. Neither gays nor straights have the right to marry a person of the opposite sex.

  46. Mr. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    June 9th, 2009 at 2:06 PM

My statement about republican fear of gays can be identified the by the same statistics that we have used all along.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Proposition_8_(2008)

A full 82 percent of republicans in California voted to ban gay marriage.

And your argument about equal rights is laughable. In the 50s, black people and white people also had equal rights. There were white fountains and colored fountains. Seats in the front of the bus for whites, and seats in the back for blacks.

Homosexuality is not a choice. The fact that you seem to believe it is curable like a disease shows just how backwater your world view truly is.

  47. AC Says:
    June 9th, 2009 at 2:40 PM

Why is it that if me, Leroy, Danbrome, etc. post something like “Studies prove people do not like apples,” that chile, pete, etc. will try to flip that around to make it sound like we said “studies prove people like oranges.”

In post #27, Leroy says, “Study after study show that kids today are not embracing the homophobia.”

No matter how hard you try, or how often you repeat it, saying that kids ARE NOT embracing homophobia is not the same as saying kids ARE embracing homosexuality.

  48. I.R. Informed Says:
    June 9th, 2009 at 3:47 PM

I know full well that Senator Koering supports traditional marriage! So what does that make him Mr. Jenkins?

  49. Mr. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    June 9th, 2009 at 5:21 PM

It makes him a smart politician who did what he had to do to defeat the sitting Senate President.

His position on gay marriage was party line before he was outed, and he saw no need to change it after. The second he comes out in favor of gay marriage, the extreme right wing of the party wins, and they get to kick him out of the caucus. And since the vote is extremely rare, he can keep getting the republican endorsement to vote like a democrat, and the only cost is lip service to the issue. If a tough vote were to come, and he could be the deciding vote, I am not so sure that he would remain where you think he is.

  50. danbrome Says:
    June 10th, 2009 at 12:00 AM

It is slanderous to spread untruths about another person, knowing that these statements are false. If you don’t buy that, ask your Pastor.

That’s what offends me. It has nothing to do with gays or straights.

  51. danbrome Says:
    June 10th, 2009 at 12:02 AM

    Chris..

I am neither gay nor liberal, so STFU.

  52. danbrome Says:
    June 10th, 2009 at 12:12 AM

President Obama’s Job Approval, according to Fox News:

    Jan 27: 65% to 16%
    Feb 18: 60% to 26%
    Mar 4: 63% to 26%
    Apr 1: 58% to 32%
    Apr 23: 62% to 29%
    May 13: 60% to 30%

    Any questions?

  53. danbrome Says:
    June 10th, 2009 at 12:14 AM

What do all of you borrow and spend proponents think about President Obama’s commitment to Pay Go?

You think he’s full of shit, right?

    LOL

  54. Chris Says:
    June 10th, 2009 at 1:49 AM

    Brome,

Go peddle your bullshit somewhere else. You have yet to name a single moderate position you hold despite at least a dozen invitations to do so. If you don’t think there’s anything offensive about being gay, then why are you so offended when someone calls you gay? Your hypocrisy (and liberalism) holds no bounds.

  55. Chris Says:
    June 10th, 2009 at 1:50 AM

    Mr.,

If being gay is a civil right, then why did 70% of African-Americans vote against Proposition 8 in California?

  56. Chris Says:
    June 10th, 2009 at 1:53 AM

    P.S. Brome,

Obama’s deficit in 2009 is over $2 TRILLION and sheeple like you believe that Obama supports budgets that pay as we go?!?! If Obama is the Pied Piper of Hamlin, then you are one of the rats.

  57. Mr. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    June 10th, 2009 at 9:20 AM

    Chris-

When did I say being gay was a civil right?

Again with the making stuff up.

    It is getting old.

  58. Chris Says:
    June 10th, 2009 at 10:56 AM

    Mr.,

Don’t be an ass. Here’s your quote:

“And your argument about equal rights is laughable. In the 50s, black people and white people also had equal rights. There were white fountains and colored fountains. Seats in the front of the bus for whites, and seats in the back for blacks. Homosexuality is not a choice. The fact that you seem to believe it is curable like a disease shows just how backwater your world view truly is.”

Mr., at least be honest about what you say.

  59. danbrome Says:
    June 10th, 2009 at 11:16 AM

    chris..

    One more time:

It is slanderous to spread untruths about another person, knowing that these statements are false. If you don’t buy that, ask your Pastor.

That’s what offends me. It has nothing to do with being called gay or straight.

  60. danbrome Says:
    June 10th, 2009 at 11:17 AM

President Obama’s Job Approval, according to Fox News:

    Jan 27: 65% to 16%
    Feb 18: 60% to 26%
    Mar 4: 63% to 26%
    Apr 1: 58% to 32%
    Apr 23: 62% to 29%
    May 13: 60% to 30%

    This is bullshit? From Fox?

  61. Joe Says:
    June 10th, 2009 at 11:21 AM

    Chris
Don’t expect a trial lawyer to be honest about what they say.

  62. Chris Says:
    June 10th, 2009 at 11:34 AM

    brome,

I would just say that you have made many claims on this website including being a moderate and being straight. You haven’t backed up that you’re a moderate any more than you’ve backed up that you’re happily married to a woman.

The internet is a funny place. You can post anything you want here. I never make assumptions about people or talk about them personally. For all I know, you could be a lesbian.

Now, wtf do Fox’s poll numbers about Obama have to do with anything being discussed here? You just made an outrageous statement about Obama and Pay Go, which I refuted and all you can come back with are Obama’s poll numbers. I stand by my comment about Obama being the Pied Piper of Hamlin.

Since you want to talk about polls, Rasmussen Reports has a poll that shows Americans trust Republicans to handle the economy over Democrats by a margin of 45% to 39%. They trust Republicans on taxes over Democrats by a margin of 44% to 39%. And they trust Republicans over Democrats on National Security by a margin of 51% to 36%.

Obama may be president now, but there is another election in a year and five months. Unless, of course, the Democrats change that too.

  63. Chris Says:
    June 10th, 2009 at 11:34 AM

    P.S. brome,

    In fairness, I don’t think you’re gay or a lesbian. I actually think you’re a 10 year old.

  64. Mr. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    June 10th, 2009 at 11:50 AM

    I will repeat my question.

When did I say that being gay was a civil right? You can infer whatever you want from what I have written, but I would encourage you to recognize that the paragraph you quoted is NOT me saying that being gay is a civil right.

  65. Chris Says:
    June 10th, 2009 at 11:55 AM

No, Mr., whenever you compare the “plight” of gays to the shame of segregating blacks, you’re not bringing Civil Rights into the argument. Not ever, ever, ever.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Separate_but_equal

  66. Mr. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    June 10th, 2009 at 12:25 PM

That juxtaposition was in response to Chile’s asinine statement that gay people have equal rights since they too are allowed to marry straight people.

Again, if you want to debate the issue, I am more than willing. But if your goal here is to paint me into a corner with words I never said, well, I guess I will move on to other topics and other people.

  67. Chris Says:
    June 10th, 2009 at 12:38 PM

    Mr.,

I’m not here to defend someone else’s words. But when you bring segregation into the argument to defend your position, you’re the one making the comparison to civil rights. Incidentally, if you look at the rhetoric of gay rights activists they are the ones asking for what they call civil rights.

  68. Mr. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    June 10th, 2009 at 1:01 PM

I am just noting that you apparently have recently been schooled in the theory of straw man arguments, and your frequent use of the tactic is getting the debate nowhere.

If you want to debate it, quit with the nuance, and tell me why same sex couples should not be allowed to marry.

  69. Chris Says:
    June 10th, 2009 at 4:44 PM

    Mr.,

That from the king of setting up the strawman. In fact, I’d say your whole argument comparing gay marriage to segregation is a strawman argument. And, blacks in California who supported Proposition 8 by a margin of 70% to 30% agree that gay marriage isn’t a civil rights.

I’m not debating nuance. There’s a reason why same sex couples shouldn’t be allowed to marry and it’s because the majority of voters in all but a handfull of states support defining marriage as between one man and one woman. If you want gay marriage, then try to get it passed in the legislature of your state. I agree with Vice President Cheney who says that states should decide individually whether to recognize same sex marriage.

  70. Mr. Leroy Jenkins Says:
    June 10th, 2009 at 6:39 PM

If a majority of Minnesotans support defining marriage as one man and one woman, why hasn’t there been a constitutional amendment effort to put it into law?

Seems to me most arguments that are strong bipartisan issues as you claim this to be have no problem getting through the legislature.

  71. Chris Says:
    June 10th, 2009 at 7:46 PM

    Mr.,

If a majority of Minnesotans support gay marriage, why hasn’t the legislature passed a bill making gay marriage legal?

Seems to me that most arguments that are strong majority issues as you claim gay marriage is have no problem getting through the legislature. I’m not aware that either the Minnesota House or the Senate has passed a gay marriage bill, despite overwhelming DFL majorities.

  72. Pete F Says:
    June 10th, 2009 at 8:17 PM

The DFL’ers from the rural areas of the state won’t vote for gay marriage.

Leroy and the other libs here, why won’t you accept civil union as a compromise?

I believe that marriage is a commitment made in a church (or other religious institution). The state should have no say in marriage.

Why do liberals keep denying people this opportunity?

  73. danbrome Says:
    June 10th, 2009 at 9:41 PM

    Chris..

“If you want gay marriage, then try to get it passed in the legislature of your state. I agree with Vice President Cheney who says that states should decide individually whether to recognize same sex marriage.”

    I agree 100%.

  74. Chris Says:
    June 10th, 2009 at 9:45 PM

    brome,

So you’re saying that you’re not legally married now?

    LOL j/k

  75. AC Says:
    June 11th, 2009 at 8:42 AM

Chris, in post #54 are you saying that Fox news is b.s.?

    Finally, we agree on something.

  76. Pete F Says:
    June 11th, 2009 at 9:06 AM

And you complain about me AC.

  77. Chris Says:
    June 11th, 2009 at 9:47 AM

    AC,

Now you’re resorting to brome’s Fourth Grade tactics. What I’m clearly saying (and let me type slow so you can understand this) is that Obama’s poll numbers are irrelevant to the issues being discussed here including gay marriage and taxes. Every time brome is challenged to back up anything he says, he cites Obama’s poll numbers.

I find it hilarious that people like you can say that Fox News is B.S. when I’d bet you never even watch the network. You probably watch government-run MSNBC.

  78. Chris Says:
    June 11th, 2009 at 9:54 AM

You know, all of you people who say that the country wants gay marriage and higher taxes need to look at California. Obama won California by a margin of 61% to 37% yet Californians rejected both higher taxes and gay marriage.

  79. chile Says:
    June 11th, 2009 at 10:43 AM

Chris, you bring up an excellent point about libs judging Fox, without ever watching it.

I would love to see a poll on Rush Limbaugh among people who’ve actually listened to his program. His approval rating would be in the 80′s.

  80. danbrome Says:
    June 11th, 2009 at 11:02 AM

    Chris..

Seriously, and with all due respect, I probably watch more Fox News than YOU DO.

It helps me strengthen my personal commitment to the Democrats who buried the GOP in the November election.

My favorite comedy hour is 8-9 pm, watching Sean Hannity trying not to laugh as he works through the GOP talking points. Funny stuff.

I also watch the Fox News business block from 9-11 am on Saturday morning… LOL Lot’s of great material there too. All the sobbing and hand wringing about Obama and the world coming to an end!

  81. danbrome Says:
    June 11th, 2009 at 11:05 AM

    chile..

That reminds me… I listen to Rush regularly also. If he becomes the voice of the GOP, I will be one happy man.

  82. Chris Says:
    June 11th, 2009 at 11:14 AM

    brome,

I didn’t know your mom let you stay up past 8 o’clock.

  83. Chris Says:
    June 11th, 2009 at 11:16 AM

    brome,

If you listen to Rush lately, what did he talk about on his show last week?

  84. danbrome Says:
    June 11th, 2009 at 11:57 AM

Rush said that if Colin Powell was going to keep criticzing the GOP , He may as well leave the party and become a Democrat.

Barack Obama is president of the United States today because of stupid, ignorant people.

  85. Chris Says:
    June 11th, 2009 at 12:04 PM

    brome,

I caught you in another lie. That’s not what Rush said last week. He said that Powell has already left the party when he endorsed Obama at a time meant to give Obama the maximum political benefit of his endorsment. He said that Powell has never publicly advocated Republican policy positions. And he said that Powell’s rhetoric about running moderates is hollow when the GOP ran the exact kind of candidate that Powell asked for and he still voted for Obama. Rush did not say that Obama is president because of stupid ignorant people.

danbrome is a liberal liar who no more watches Fox News than he listens to Rush or is, in fact, a moderate. Brome, you should talk to your pastor about the difference between the truth and a lie.

  86. chile Says:
    June 11th, 2009 at 12:27 PM

Liberal danbrome, do you have a man-crush on Sean Hannity? How does that affect your “personal commitment” to Assboy Madia?

    Fox News: Fair and Balanced

  87. danbrome Says:
    June 11th, 2009 at 1:05 PM

    Chris..

Sorry, but this is a direct quote from Thursday 6/4.

“Barack Obama is president of the United States today because of stupid, ignorant people”

You were going to call me a liar no matter how I responded to your plea. And you wonder why I don’t rush to answer your loaded questions.

    LOL

  88. Chris Says:
    June 11th, 2009 at 1:10 PM

    brome,

See, that’s what happens when you go to left wing websites and see what they say Rush said. Rush was talking to a so-called Republican caller who proudly voted for Obama. This is what Rush actually said. And it wasn’t on 6/4 it was on April 7. You can read the entire transcript here:

    http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_040709/content/01125112.member.html

  89. Chris Says:
    June 11th, 2009 at 1:13 PM

    P.S. brome,

Rush posts the transcripts of his entire shows on Rushlimbugh.com for all to see (including Members like me). If you think you’re going to win a pissing match with someone who actually listens to the show instead of a phony like you, you’re wrong.

If you were Catholic, I’d tell you to go to confession for your lies. Since you’re not Catholic, like me, you need to talk to your pastor and find out the difference between a lie and the truth.

  90. AC Says:
    June 11th, 2009 at 1:32 PM

    Chris,

I try to avoid Fox, but unfortunatly forced to watch it on one of the TVs at the gym.

If given a choice, I tend to watch BBC News and read their web site. Been doing that since 9/11. The coeverage of the US by a foreign press is much better. At least I think so.

  91. danbrome Says:
    June 11th, 2009 at 2:10 PM

    I’m not Catholic?

    LOL ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

  92. chile Says:
    June 11th, 2009 at 2:27 PM

AC, the BBC is socialized television. They are anti-Israel, anti-America, and pro-Obama. Much like NPR.

  93. Chris Says:
    June 11th, 2009 at 2:51 PM

    brome,

You referred to your clergy as Pastor. If you’re Catholic then you’re even more ignorant than I think.

  94. AC Says:
    June 11th, 2009 at 4:53 PM

chile, the BBC is also a very respected news organization.

  95. Chris Says:
    June 11th, 2009 at 5:00 PM

    AC,

You may be right. But I question any news organization that is a client of a government.

  96. Chris Says:
    June 11th, 2009 at 5:39 PM

    Hey brome,

If I were your priest, I’d make you say 5 “Our Fathers” and 10 “Hail Marys” for all of your whoppers.

  97. danbrome Says:
    June 12th, 2009 at 1:19 PM

    Chris..

How could I possibly be more ignorant than YOU think?
