Danbourne:

I find your logic a little silly here. I laid out a bunch of polls where the public disagreed with the policies with Obama you ran away.

The fact is the reason why Clinton was an okay president as shown by Chille is once he realized that he couldn't govern as a liberal especially after the take over of the congress by the Republicans he managed the economy much better than the previous President Bush.

That Clinton signed a welfare reform meant to reduce the people on welfare. obama wants to expand a bunch of programs including ending welfare reform.

That Clinton signed a capital gains tax cut which helped caused the dramatic stock market rally. Obama wants to increase the rate because he doesn't think it's fair.

Obama is doing policies that Clinton wouldn't even think of doing. Which is why he's such a bad leader (after all he's like that deer looking at the headlights)

brone,

The fact that you continue to bash and protest against conservative, whom you appear to hate, shows that you are not a moderate.

You know what the difference is between you and me (besides the fact that you're so uninformed)? The difference is that I am honest about where I stand. The fact that you cannot be honest about where you stand tells something about you.

Liberal danbrome, you been called pro-abortion (becauses you are pro-abortion) and have protested that.

Think back to 1993. Democrats controlled the White House, The House of Reps, and the Senate. In the 1994 electons voters revolted and gave control of both houses to Republicans. Clinton would share power with Republicans the next 6 years. Clintons last 6 years in office were largely successuful, as far as the economy goes.

When you think about it, Clinton wasn't that bad of a President, except for: His repeated scandals, gutting defense and neutering the CIA, killing Vince Foster (or was that Hillary), and getting twice impeached.

You keep protesting because you know that Obama is a complete socialist and he's going to damage your party greatly.

chris..

The weak side in the current fight is the conservative GOP stooges.

I'm OK with you expressing your conservative positions here or anywhere else. I just think it's funny that you ignore the fact that these position may already be bankrupt, which explains the Obama steamroller in D.C.

Anytime I make a statement you disagree with, you claim I am just here to "smart off". What that tells me is that you are too ignorant to realize that the Democratic message has traction, and may make you conservative types nervous for a long time to come.

By the way.. why would I protest when the Dems are kicking your party's ass? Can you explain what I have protested?

brone,

You have no free speech on this blog. The owners of the blog can ban you at any moment. You only have free speech and expression on your own blog.

Your comments about free speech are very interesting. All you do is come here, smart off, cite Obama's polls and tell us that the GOP has no message and is irrelevant. If we're so irrelevant, why "protest" against us all the time?

Could it be that dambrone is the irrelevant one with no message?

dambrone,

You are a meathead; dead from the neck up!

And if you can't make a point without using profane language, then you don't have a point worth making.

Which begs the question you have yet to answer: why do you come here brone? You're like a tick that's burrowed itself into a hound dog. I really wish you would find something better to do than troll here.

brone,

I see you dodged your dodge. I have a question for you. You say you have a wife and presumably children. I'm assuming you have some kind of job. Wouldn't your time be better spent on those parts of your life instead of coming on here and cocking off to or otherwise antagonizing conservatives?

It would be different if you contributed something of substance. But whenever I challenge you to back up your statements you run away to another topic.

Integrity,

You're absurd in the extreme. I do want a government. I want a government that respects and follows the Constitution. The Constitution limits the powers of the federal government and leaves the balance to the states and to the people. The Constitution also recognizes individual freedoms and liberties. It's been a damned good system for over 200 years and you far-left ideologues are threatening to chip away at our society and system of government.

Is recycling a good idea? Of course. But there are many good ideas, including not smoking, eating healthy, exercising, not wearing white after Labor Day, helping your neighbor, etc. That doesn't mean that the government is supposed to intervene in these areas just because they are good ideas.

Personally, I resent the notion that just because you'd rather drink icky, smelly Minneapolis tap water, I should be deprived of my clear, cool, pure Ice Mountain Natural Spring Water. As for the gas it takes to haul the bottles of water across the country, I don't care. As a good liberal, I bet you wear Birkenstocks or enjoy Kashi granola products. Ever consider how much it costs to ship those things from the various places they are produced to the U.S. and then around the U.S.? At least I'm drinking water that provides jobs to hard working Americans at the springs in Michigan and through Ice Mountain's distribution channels -- not to mention Sam's Club.

I also resent being called particularly sensitive to the crappy Minneapolis drinking water. I don't live in Minneapolis. I live in a place which gets its drinking water from a well. Our water tends to be high in minerals and iron so I have a water softener. It's absolutely wonderful for showers, cooking, and doing the laundry. But softened water doesn't always taste the best. I'd much rather have spring water and I prefer Ice Mountain. But when I've stayed in Minneapolis I can smell and taste the difference in water. Your Minneapolis water smells like the Mississippi River and it doesn't taste much better. It seems that you need to get your ass out of the city and see how the rest of the country lives.

Finally, I'm so sick of hearing liberals say that conservatives are trying to force our morality on society via abortion laws, marriage laws and the like. You've got it ass backwards. It's the left, particularly the far left, who are trying to regulate every single aspect of our personal lives and our businesses. And just because you pissed me off talking about the use of gasoline to truck the water around the country, I'm going to make two trips to Sam's Club tomorrow to buy water.

Chris doesn't want a government at all. He knows what's best and nobody needs to tell him anything.

I wasn't saying the Minneapolis water is bad at all. I haven't ever had an issue with it. I'm saying for somebody who is as sensitive as you are, it makes good sense to go buy a $30 PUR filter so you can feel "safe" drinking the tap water.

The only reason that you have to not drink the water or to recycle or whatever is because you're not going to have anybody suggest that you do anything, no matter how good of an idea it is. Name one reason why it does not make sense to recycle. Also, remember, there is more to drinking all that bottled water than you think. Think of how much fuel is used to ship your special bottled water all over the country. Think how much less we would use if a few more people just drank the tap water or used a PUR filter.

Also, I don't care whose company it is.

If you want to run piss through a filter and drink it, be my guest. As Chris has pointed out, that’s your right and nobody should be able to stop you. That’s not what we're talking about here. And your connection between the TV and the water makes no sense in anybody's head but your own.

Integrity, when the TV stations say the the smelly water coming from city taps is safe to drink, that does suggest it smells.

As far a a PUR filter, if you run piss through that filter it's still piss.

You dodged the issues I raised in post #51 which was a response to your ridiculous assertion about the GOP message. And you still haven't named three positions you and President Ford or Senator Coleman agree upon.

brome,

Personal freedom is the GOP message. We don't want a bureaucrat like you telling us what kind of water to drink or what doctor to see and what procedures to have. We don't want a bureaucrat or a politician telling us not to eat salt or saturated fat or to not drink sugared soda. And we don't want the government running the car companies on the taxpayer dime. Nor do we want the government to put a tax on the electricity we use, the gas we put in our car, the natural gas we burn in our homes or the fizz that's in our beer.

And we agree with the Oracle of Omaha, Warren Buffett, that the economy is in shambles with no signs of recovery despite trillions of dollars being spent by the Obama administration with the promise of job creation and an economic turnaround.

You poor baby. The whole world is out to get you. Soon, the government will own you, and takeover your dwelling. You will be forced into slavery by the powerful Democratic Administration that kicked your sorry ass in November.

Like I said earlier, the GOP better find a significant message soon... before Obama's 2nd term when he can feel more emboldened.

P.S. Integrity,

It's a helluva endorsement of Minneapolis drinking water when you're telling everyone to go out and get a PUR water filter so you can choke the stuff down. Maybe the City of Minneapolis should be paying for PUR water filter advertising instead of their own.

By the way, PUR used to be Brian Sullivan's company. I'm sure it thrills you to no end that you're supporting a conservative Republican with your cash.

Integrity,

This is still a free country (notwithstanding the government takeover of Chrysler, the banks, and soon-to-be health care and energy). And if I want to drink Ice Mountain bottled spring water, I'll drink Ice Mountain bottled spring water. And if I want to recycle, I'll recycle. But if I don't want to recycle, so be it.

And don't tell me that Minneapolis water doesn't smell. It smells like the fricking Mississippi river. Your problem is that you never get out of the city to smell and taste what water is supposed to be.

You liberals used to say that the government should stay out of our bodies and our personal lives. Maybe you should take some of your own advice.

Michael and Ryan,

Could you please explain to me why you allow the continued use of the vulgar word "twat" by "Leroy"?

This is an extremely offensive word that ranks down there with "cunt" or "nigger", neither of which I am certain you would not allow.

While this isn't a site for kids, it's sure not an Adult site that has warnings, either.

For people who complain about people like Obama being elitist, listen to yourselves. The water is just fine. It doesn't smell. It doesn't taste bad. You guys are just being babies about it.

If you are as sensitive to taste and smell as you claim to be, might I suggest a PUR water filter. For those of you who don't like chlorine in your water, it takes 97.28% of it out of the water passed though the filter. Their 3 stage filter is one of the best in the world. Why don't you just get one of those for about $30? One filter can convert about 100 gallons of "slimy, smelly, bad tasting" Minneapolis tap water into 100 gallons (2-3 months worth) of good tasting, 97.28% chlorine free, good smelling water. Just save one of your Ice Mountain bottles and fill it from your tap using the PUR water filter. It will be cheaper than buying all the cases of water, and will cut down on the number of bottles that go into the landfills. PLUS the city will benefit from more people using the tap water! Everybody wins!!

Let’s not forget, that even when we do recycle, it still takes money and energy to recycle. While recycling is better than just going out and buying new or throwing everything into the trash, it is even better to not even have to recycle because you are REUSING what you have.

You're absolutely right about the smell. When I've taken a shower in Minneapolis I've felt like I've wanted to take another shower somewhere else to get the river water smell off of me.

Last year when RT Rybak was trying to promote Minneapolis tap water it had a very bad smell to it. This was very noticeable. "Our swill is swell" is not a good promotion strategy when the "product" is obviously flawed though technically safe to drink.

Chris, I don't usually buy bottled water but I'll give Ice Mountain Natural Spring Water a try!

If I'm in Minneapolis I won't worry about recycling - I'll just throw the empty bottle in the trash. (According to Leroy, the know-it-all jackass, Minneapolis doesn't recycle)

Just a year ago, RT endorsed Hakim Ellison and now Hakim is endorsing Entenza. Wonder how RT feels about that?

brone (and chile),

I just looked at my bottle of Ice Mountain Natural Spring Water which is sourced from the Sanctuary Spring in Rodney, MI and the Evert Spring in Evert, MI. Not some city's water in Massachusetts. There is a difference between Ice Mountain Natural Spring Water and other Ice Mountain products which state that they are purified water with minerals added for taste. I only buy the Ice Mountain Natural Spring Water because it's the best water I've ever tasted.

Mr.,

I could give a flying fig how much my delicious tasting Ice Mountain Natural Spring Water tastes compared to the City of Minneapolis' stinky, smelly, rotten river tap water. As I'm taking a sip now from the 700 ml sports bottle, I could (and do) drink this stuff all day long. Last time I was in Minneapolis I could barely choke down the crap out of a drinking fountain. And when I took a shower, I thought I was at the river.

Last I checked, this is still a free country (at least until Obama takes over and shuts down the country's bottled water industry ala the Chrysler and GM dealerships) and I am free to choose bottled water over tap (I thought liberals were pro-choice). While I do recycle, that's also a freedom issue. And don't lecture me about landfills because both Minneapolis and St. Paul export their garbage to landfills in "outstate" Minnesota.

Where I live - you get charged extra for garbage pickup if you don't recycle. But I was recently in FL and down there they don't seem to recycle at all.

Mr. - why don't you take your heroin addiction down to FL and see if you change their ways.

Liberal danbrome, Ice Mountain takes municipal tap water and further purifies it, just like most bottled water manufacturers. It's not a secret.

Can you imagine what it would cost to turn the foul-smelling slime that comes from Minneapolis taps, into something that tastes good?

Leroy, you jackass, I'm not surprised you use heroin.

The city requires businesses and residents to recycle. If only a quarter of the people are in compliance, then RT has failed as mayor, Again.

How many city owned properties have vending machines that dispense plastic bottles? Befor liberal pukes like you and RT preach to the rest of us about the use of plastice, you should pledged to never buy or use anything made of plastic.

And that includes a driver's license ... never mind, RT doesn't have one.

Chile, you twat.

I know the city allows recycling. The fact remains that only a quarter of the public does with any regularity. So, most of these bottles end up in landfills.

We spend 50 million barrels of oil a year producing plastic bottles. If my heroin habit is funding terrorism, so is your love of bottled water.

Leroy, you jackass, Minneapolis does recycle plastic bottles!

Earth911 promotes the recycling of plastic bottles. Even they aren't telling us we have to drink tap water. Yet, RT is wasting $200,000 in city tax dollars telling people what they should drink.

Is there something wrong with attacking plastic bottles?

Americans buy an estimated 28 billion plastic water bottles every year.

Nearly eight out of every 10 bottles will end up in a landfill.

It is estimated that the production of plastics accounts for four percent of the energy consumption in the U.S.

About 80 percent of all municipal solid waste ends up in a landfill, while 10 percent is incinerated and only 10 percent is recycled.

Because about less than one percent of all plastics is recycled, almost all plastics are incinerated or end up in a landfill.

Leroy, you jackass, piss is free. Why not drink that?

Municipal water is extremely cheap. Using your .003 cost per gallon (and assuming people would drink 16 cups of water per day) RT's program would need more than 182,000 people to switch from bottled water to tap, to recoup the $200,000 on a per annum basis.

If RT were to promote the watering of lawns, it would take only less than 1000 homeowners - with 1/8 acre of lawn providing 20 1-inch lawn waterings per year - to bring in that same $200,000 revenue.

RT is not promoting the use of city water - he's using city tax dollars to discourage the use of bottled water. This isn't a pro city water issue, it's an attack on plastic bottles.

You mean after the federal, state, county and city governments have spent years and millions of dollars scaring the crap out of the populace over the quality of tap water, they're now surprised that people aren't drinking the stuff?

Ice Mountain = Mmmmmmm...

Minneapolis water = Eewwwwwww.... (think swamp water)

The Ice Mountain water sounds like a bargain compared to what they call "water" in Minneapolis (and I lived there for a few years, I've smelled it).

And at $7 for a 24 pack at Sam’s Club it’s a bargain.

It may taste different, but it certainly isn't a bargain.

Your Ice Mountain 24 pack contains 24 700 ml bottles. That is 16.800 ml. There are 3785 ml in a gallon, so you are buying 4.4 gallons of water for $7.

In the city of Minneapolis, water is sold in units, with 748 gallons in a unit. One unit of Minneapolis water costs $2.67.

So, a gallon of Ice Mountain water sells for $1.59 a gallon, while a gallon of Minneapolis city water sells for $0.003 a gallon.

Do you care to revise your statement about what a bargain you are getting with your bottled water>?

This is a good project that has paid off for the city of Minneapolis

Care to share with us some actual numbers?

This demonstrates that liberals have no clue how business works. There is no way they're ever going to get a return on a $200k investment given the product, the market and the margins available to them (not to mention the high cost of production, maintenance and labor.) They'd have to sell millions and millions more just to cover the marketing investment.

P.S. brone,

A recent Rasmussen Reports poll finds that the same percentage of people (33%) strongly disapprove of Obama as strongly approve. The same poll shows that 59% of the people think the economy is poor and 55% think that business leaders, not goverment, will get the economy moving again. If you want to talk about bread and butter GOP issues, there you have some.

brone,

If you think the federal government takeover of entire sectors of our economy is moderate then you're as big of a meathead as I think.

It's a shame that you don't use any critical thinking skills whatsoever when it comes to anything the government does. The only difference between RT Rybak's drinking water and Jim Jones' Kool Aid is that Rybak's water isn't supposed to kill you. At least not yet.

As for 2010, I'm not concerned. I'll take on the party of mandatory water usage, pigeon birth control and the black hole known as the Schubert any day. And that doesn't even mention the hundreds of thousands of jobs lost every month.
