Since the last time that came up was the summer of 2006, you'll have to ask your conservative buddies since they were still in charge of the House, Senate and White House.

I do know that Texas conservative billionaire T. Boone Pickens was in Congress supporting the outlawing of butchering horses for human consumption. There was evidence to show that people were stealing family pets, show horses, childrens riding ponies and such for slaughter (modern day horse rustlers).

DJZ,
How does outlawing the butchering of horses help anyone other than PETA types? Seriously. There is playing by the rules but that rule is completely stupid.

chile,
Pomeroy comes from a state that is in the top five for oil production and the worlds biggest deposit of lignite coal. Do your homework. Big Oil and the Coal Industry are as big of an influence as farmers. However, there are 37,000 members of the farmers union there, in a state of 650,000.

F2010,
I don't like it but the truth is, if you take any money from the government, then you can expect their nose in 'your' business.

My comment is not on the payments as much as its on the condoned manipulation of the market- they way why find it OK to have the government adjust demand and still pay a premium for supply in order to keep food cheap. I'm OK with that as is the agriculture field. However, they need to recognize that if the government stepped out of the way, most of them would go under with a couple of seasons. Ask the steel industry what's it like to have to compete in the world market.

Chris,
I didn't say they were happy. What they are not, is mad. They are certainly not mad enough to feel betrayed by Peterson.

Judge Sotamayor didn't make a decision actually. She went along with status quo, less she be labeled and activist judge. It was a unanimous decision among the three judge panel.

Next, four of the current nine Supreme Court Justices agree with her.

Chief Justice Roberts was part of a decision that was reversed right before he became Chief Justice.

Nobody currently on the Supreme Court that sat on the bench had their decisions reversed as much as the affirmative action justice- Alito.

DJZ,

If you don't think ag groups are pissed off at Peterson's inability to get meaningful changes to the tax and trade climate bill, then you're nuts. Peterson's saving grace may be when the Senate dumps the piece of s**t that is the climate bill.

I'd also note that your comment in #7 applies to you. I don't know how many times you've personally attacked the people you disagree with -- often with profanity.

Finally, I'd note that erudite brilliant liberals like you don't know any more about the Constitution than you think. My evidence for this is the recent reversal of Judge Sotamayor's opinion.

DJZ,
Thank you for not lacing your last comment with unnecessary profanity.

My issue with you comments is that many of them are merely opinions that are unsupported by facts. You also seem to assume that if a farmer accepts taxpayer subsidies that they turn over thier right to run thier business as they see fit to the goverment.

I disagree.

If that is the case everyone of us must allow the goverment to tell us how to run our businesses because in some way or another most all of us receive taxpayer dollars (tax breaks and credits come to mind).

David J. Ziegler, if what Peterson did is so great for farmers, why did Earl Pomeroy vote no?

AC, when you allow your child to call someone a "pedophile", it show what a horrible parent you are.

1. The rural communities and organizations supporting agriculture, Sportsmen and the land management industry support Peterson. He sold no one out.

That was the main point of this post. They ALL support the Chairman. If you were going to make the argument that his Chairmanship keeps them in his pocket, then there is no need for this post question his vulnerability. His base, as this post expresses, supported his admendment or the entire bill. He's ust fine.

2. The National Farmers Union is headed by the former President from North Dakota. The state who hasn't voted for a Democrat President since 1964 and only House member voted against this bill. Does not sound like an arm of the Democratic Party.

3. Lawyers, Judges, Law Enforcement Officials, Politicians and certain Professors are paid to be experts on the Constitution. Right Wing think tank fellows are paid to twist and misinterpret it.

4. Cow-farts, or methane is a source of damaging pollution. However, its also a source of energy. Several cities use methane (usually from landfills) and turn it into electricity. Done right, what you narrowly view as a tax, could very well be yet another source of income for farmers. Damn government interference.

5. Don't know what kind of farmers your buddy are who were griping about the government but, they seem to can't get enough government whenever the government allows the market to operate freely and the can't keep up with trade deals that undercut their market. They're never complaining about the checks from the government to manage their market with false supply.

6. You live in a country, not a feudal village. You swallow the good with the bad. I could send money back to government, but we all benefit from a better educated, more skilled, healthier society. So, taxation is the fairest and most equitable way to get there.

7. The biggest assault on the First Amendment, is what you and other attempted to do hear. Silence speech you don't like by attacking the speaker with ridiculous motives and publicly exposing his identity in hopes that someone will silence him, ie Michael Savage style.

8. Back to the original point:
I have proven that Peterson is still in the 'good graces' of the groups in which you label his base constituency.
You have proven to be threatened by being wrong.

DJZ,

Of course the Farm Bureau is going to support the powerful Chairman of the House Ag Committee. To oppose Peterson while he is chairman would be political suicide. And it also makes sense that they supported his amendment. Peterson is typical Washington, D.C. politics: Peterson offers an amendment - the amendment goes down in flames and he still votes for a bad bill.

I stand behind my comments about the Farmers Union. The Farmers Union is just another wing of the far left of the Democratic Party that is more about social justice and liberalism than about farmers and farming.

I also stand behind my comments about the cap and trade bill, which was anti-consumer and anti-farming. The bill originally had a provision to tax cow farts, DJZ. When the far left of the Democratic party is more concerned about cow farts than beef farmers, we have a serious problem. You might be able to afford the cost of higher beef, higher energy, and higher consumer products but many in this country -- dare I say most in this country -- cannot.

I'm glad that you are a limousine liberal, DJZ. But I bet you take all of the tax deductions that are coming to you. If you want to pay more to the federal government, go right ahead. But leave the rest of us alone.

P.S. You may be paid to analyze the constitution (by whom I do not know or care). But if you have to use profanity to make a point, your point is not worth making. You say that the people who disagree with you are abusing the First Amendment. But I submit that your constant swearing at people is the ultimate abuse of the First Amendment.

DJZ,
You complain about your name being posted here but yet are critical of others who remain nameless.

You may pay all the money you want to the goverment, just send in a check. You do not need to wait for them to take it from you. Have you put your money where your mouth is and done so?

Your mind is so closed that you can't see the bigger picture. Just because the Farm Bureau supported Peterson's amendement does not mean they supported the legislation. They merely saw that as a better option if the legislation were to pass but would have preferred the legislation failed.

You claimed that the "Farmers Bureau represents the agri-businesses that brought the destruction of the family farm and unsafe food not to mention a weaker FDA". That is simply NOT TRUE. It is a lie. The last meeting I attended was filled with family farmers concerned about the reach of the goverment.

They were concerned about Big Stone II being stopped and the negative impact that would have on their family farms. They were concerned about the animal rights kooks who managed to get legislation passed to prevent the killing of horses in this country. Whats next, hogs?

You may be "paid to be an expert on the Constitution" but you are failing.

I will make sure I vote on election day but unlike many people on your side I will only vote once and only vote where I am legally allowed to vote.

You may pay all the money you want to the goverment, just send in a check. You do not need to wait for them to take it from you. Have you put your money where your mouth is and done so?

DJZ everything you say is a lie or distortion. At best your comments are opinions unsupported by the facts.

Nice projection.

Exactly what haven't I supported?

1. This title of the post and you ignorant posters was refuted not by my 'lies' but, by the Farmers Bureau own press release- which I quoted and provided a link for you dolts to read itself. You might remember in my response number 16 the Bureau said to vote YES the PETERSON AMENDMENT. Although they were against Climate Legislation- they too the time to separate Peterson from their opposition. He didn't reverse anything and still stands with agriculture.

2. Backing up to my first post, anonymous chickeshits, Chile and Capitol Insider were joining Ryan in saying that Peterson sold farmers out. Based on what they 'heard'. Being the responsible liberal that I am- I said wrong and backed it up with a release from the Farmers Union in support of the compromise(23,000 members in Peterson's District alone). Chris, dismisses them as being insignificant- nothing to back it up and quotes the Farmers Bureau. I then point out in the FB's release they take time to highlight their support of the Peterson Amendment- in other words they support Colin.

3. Someone posted that Corn Growers are against this- why? Because there isn't enough support for ethanol (which really is not cost effective)- I just thought you Republicans would remain consistent and not turn to the Corn Growers because you've been against ethanol subsidies from the beginning. Silly me.

4. Bottom line- I've proved Peterson is just fine with the farmers by quoting their representing organizations that are usually at odds ends with each other but, agree that Peterson has done great work. You have proved nothing but, the ability to still call names, threaten and try to win an argument by being full of bluster and void of facts. Well little boys, your still practicing a losing tactic.

5. I'm not an anti-gun DFLer. Since I get paid to be an expert on the Constitution, why would I piss on the Second Amendment when you pukes abuse the First?

6. I am one of the people that can afford to pay and will pay more for a better country. You can thank me later by staying home on election day.

Thank you chile. It is good to know what I am up against here.

I would prefer to discuss the 2010 race for Governor here but it is becoming obvious that the Democrats have such a weak team that they are avoiding dicussion of the topic at all costs.

The energy bill that the House passed should fail in the Senate. It is way to costly and restrictive and is a very regressive tax. If it does pass the next thing the Democrats will do is start passing more welfare programs for people who can't pay the new taxes they just put on them.

At some point the "rich" will run out of money, I wonder how they will pay for all their bad programs then?

I thought Democrats were against gun ownership.

DJZ and AC, less power to you.

David J. Zieglar. You came back with a group that represents organic farmers, that are trying to farm the way it was done 100 or more years ago. That won't feed the world Jay-hole.

Chris blew a big hole in that your argument, why not accept that you are wrong and move on?

You are a rude little turd DJZ. You have difficulty with people challenging your opinions don't you?

I know many farmers that are members of the Farmers Bureau. They are farmers that would prefer the goverment stay out of their business unlike the ones you speak so highly of who are dependent on the goverment to support them in many cases.

DJZ everything you say is a lie or distortion. At best your comments are opinions unsupported by the facts.

Your nasty language and personal attacks clearly define you as a far left kook who is undeserving of attention. I am proud to say that you dislike me and am honored to know that you feel that I am a "limp dick anonymous coward".

With people like you here it is best to be anonymous since you clearly have anger management issues. I can only assume you are not allowed to have a weapon due to mental health issues.

It is a pity that people like you exist in this world.

Listen you limp-dick anonymous cowards, I actually stood by Brodkorb and went to his coming out party when Olson 'exposed' him and canceled my subscription to PIM in which he was co-publisher at the time.

You "say" farmers don't support this- I come back with the biggest organization of actual farmers, (not guys who work for or run multi-national agribusinesses) you dismiss it. I produce a couple of letters you got nothing.

It's typical action. Republicans say a bunch of crazy lies (Bachmann and every last one of them that spoke against the energy bill) and Democrats speak truth with facts to back them up. It stings so much, you think its dishonest or bad faith involved.

I spelled out exactly what Karl Rove was a part of, and if I was there, would have had arrested. He has co-conspired and participated in illegal activity. If the Dems had any backbone, his ass would be dragged before a federal grand jury.

Last I checked, Keith Ellison is a world respected Member of Congress in which both Bush and Obama has relied on for improving the face of America. You two are still a couple nobodies who nothing to the national conversation, the advancement of the country, or anything forward thinking.

You're a couple of inbred pukes who play easily into my hands. You really think you got something? Bring it.

Call me Jay. David J. Ziegler is for the courtrooms.

2010, double standard is exactly it. David J. Ziegler, you've defended Hakim Ellison's criminal activity and now your defending crimes aimed at Karl Rove. Are you an anarchist, David J. Ziegler? (Did you and Hakim high-5 each other when the planes crashed into the WTC.)

Where were you, David J. Ziegler, when Blois Olson filed his SLAPP suit and forced MBB to reveal his identity?

Take of you fascist-liberal hat for a moment, David J. Ziegler, and look in the mirror. The cowardly fraud you'll be looking at is you.

Spelling out your name David J. Zieglar, is meant to get your attention. You come in here in bad faith, when you suggest Waxman-Markey is something the average farmer supports.

The only farmer to benefit for cap and trade are the organic farmers - using 19th century methods and provide less safe products - who can't compete in a free market.

"Karl Rove earned it". Why the double standard DJZ? How does anyone "earn" that type of threat. You sound like a terrorist.

It is obvious that you have a very high opinion of yourself and your importance. Trust me on this one, you have more to worry about within your own party than you do from anyone here.

I have noticed that other peoples personal information has been posted on this website as well. Some by people with your political leanings.

Doesn't this bother you or has everyone you disagree with "earned it"?

1. Since that idiot from the Wright County Republican, posted my name and town, I've been prepared for one of you cowards to make a move.

2. The hypocritical irony is exactly why you are a bunch of cowards who encourage violence. You are really trying to ask what I'm afraid of, while posting anonymously?

3. Karl Rove earned it. When I'm advising the president and oversee tactics that steal two elections, take us to war on a lie, sink the economy, stir up more hate among countrymen and completely destroy the credibility of the executive branch, then you may drive up my path and knock on my door. Until then, you'll get shot if you trespass.

4. This is no different than what Swiftee has promised anyone. Except, he won't let you get to the door.

5. Chile is a punk coward.

Are you afraid "right winger's" might confront you at you home in the same way that "left wingers" have confronted Karl Rove?

Spelling out my name over and over is your way to intimidate me. Same thing Michael Savage does and your brethren did to the church in Tennessee, the doctor in Kansas and at the Holocaust museum. Now all someone has to do is look me up and maybe threaten my family or something?
You're an ass and a coward. A perfect Right Winger.

David J. Ziegler, would you prefer I call you Dave?

I actually do believe that Collin is one of the few Democrats in Washington that truly cares about farmers. The point of Ryan's post was to show Collin's willingness to reverse his postition, under the threats of Pelosi and Waxman.

Speaking of threats, I don't personally know any gun nuts. The people I know who exercise their constitutional right to keep and bears arms do are law abiding citizens. They would not take up your challenge to meet your ganbanger buddies, who possess guns illegally.

Farmers Union represent family and small farmers.
Farmers Bureau represents the agri-businesses that brought the destruction of the family farm and unsafe food not to mention a weaker FDA.

I'll stick with the Farmers Union. Also, in the states in the midwest, the membership is much higher with the Farmers Union for those who actually farm. Not accountants, lawyers, truck drivers, corporation heads.

The Farmers Bureau ask Congress to vote YES on the Peterson bill:
AFBF: Vote ‘No’ on Climate Change Bill, ‘Yes’ on Peterson Amendment

WASHINGTON, D.C., June 25, 2009 – The American Farm Bureau Federation is urging all members of the House to vote “no” on a sweeping climate change bill that is scheduled for a floor vote on Friday and is asking them to vote “yes” on an amendment authored by House Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson (D-Minn.).

What else would like to educate us on Chris? Ryan, you'd do your self well to learn how to google search at least.

Hey "chile" using my whole name is a tired tactic you hateful, chickenshit, violence inducing punks on the right have done over and over to intimidate and shut down opposition. Call up your gun nuts and send them after me, I'll meet them halfway. Go off somewhere and die. That'll clean the environment real quick you puke.

DJZ,

The National Farmers' Union is probably the smallest farm organization in the country. If you want to know where real farmers stand, check the Farm Bureau. See, e.g., this from the New York Times:

"Meanwhile, no large agriculture industry groups have endorsed the bill and two major farm groups -- the National Corn Growers Association and the American Farm Bureau -- have come out against the bill's treatment of the agriculture sector."

Also, at least be honest when you say this isn't a tax. In Great Britian, families are paying an average of $1300 a year in similar green taxes. The Wall Street Journal estimates that this bill will cost American families $1870 a year by 2020 and $6800 per year by 2035 when restricitions in the bill are fully implemented.

DJZ, This is what Peterson says:

Even so, “there probably is a role for EPA in this,” conceded Peterson. “The bottom-line problem is EPA doesn’t trust agriculture and agriculture doesn’t trust EPA."

At least Peterson is being honest about letting farmers down.

Bunch of know-nothings.
First, its the same cry of higher taxes that was lied about when we capped sulfur and nitrate to combat acid rain in 1993. We only had the greatest economic expansion of all time following that.

Next- the Farmers are for this.

NFU to House: Pass Climate Change Legislation

WASHINGTON (June 25, 2009) - National Farmers Union today urged members of the House of Representatives to vote in support of the House Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson, D-Minn., amendment to the American Clean Energy and Security Act.

"NFU strongly urges members of the House to support the Peterson amendment and a related manager's amendment dealing with early actors. Upon approval, we urge members to vote in favor of the climate change legislation," NFU President Roger Johnson said. "A strong offset program overseen by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the recognition of early actors will ensure America's farmers and ranchers can be a part of the climate change solution."

NFU policy supports a national, mandatory carbon emission cap and trade system if USDA is granted control and administration of the agriculture offset program and early actors are recognized. The organization has also urged that no artificial cap be placed on domestic offsets, carbon sequestration rates are based upon science and producers are permitted to stack environmental benefit credits.

The Peterson amendment also addresses the controversial theory of indirect land use, which holds American farmers accountable for producers' actions in foreign countries. This theory is not based on peer-reviewed science and delaying the requirement that EPA consider indirect land use will ensure continued development and success of our nation's renewable fuels industry.

Johnson praised Peterson, Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Hoyer for their efforts. "This agreement would not have occurred without the diligent work of Chairman Peterson, members of the agriculture committee and the House leadership. I thank them all for standing up for America's farmers and ranchers," Johnson said.

"A strong vote in favor of agriculture offsets and approving the underlying bill is a step in the right direction. Much work remains to be done once the bill is sent to the U.S. Senate. NFU will be fully engaged and looks forward to further refining the legislation."

I said that a compromise had been reached or will be reached by Friday in time for the vote hence since a compromise hasn't been announced, one will be worked out by Friday. Unfortunately my link to the WSJ I put didnt work and the Cap and Tax article is not the one I read. I dont remember what I googled so you can just take my dirty liberal word for it that Pelosi said a compromise will be reached by Friday.

CI, We'll have to wait to see what the bill looks like, but it sounds like Collin sold his constituents down the Red River.

Pelosi and Waxman don't give a damn about sugarbeet farmers and apparently Peterson doesn't either.

I'm hearing from friends in DC that Peterson was on the cusp of losing his coveted chairmanship, which is why he sold farmers down the river. American Crystal Sugar stands to be the biggest loser of Peterson's base, so it will be interesting to see if this is enough for them to finally look elsewhere.

It is fascinating to watch this as Peterson has been known as such a strong Conservative voice in such a drifting left-wing party. Perhaps he's just given up, but it is really sad to see him stab so many of his friends in the back for what is now a pretty much useless gavel.

The WSJ is also describing the proposed "cap and trade" bill as a "Cap and Tax Fiction", and "that those Members who vote for this climate bill are voting for what is likely to be the biggest tax in American history."

Wow. Some compromise.

The WSJ is reporting that that reached a compromise, or will be by Friday. I remember reading the article that first talked about his opposition and how that they needed to compromise. Ta-da, now they did. You should really be writing a post praising Peterson for his work with getting the bill to be able to be effective while also keeping our state's farmers in mind.

Do you not do simple google searches before you post something or is getting one little piece of info and blowing it up into a bunch of crap your idea of reliable writing?
