INSTEAD OF FOCUSING ON UNITY, FRANKEN PARTICIPATES IN PARTISAN HATE RALLY
By Ryan Flynn | July 2, 2009
Minnesotans should not be surprised, but Al Franken* (click here for info on Franken’s asterisk) participated in a partisan hate rally yesterday at the state capitol. Franken* should have been working to heal the wounds from his scorched earth campaign for the U.S. Senate. Please note the signs from yesterday’s hate rally honoring Franken*.

Please note the child, sitting a short distance away from a vulgar sign. What a disgrace!

This is America where people have both the right to be stupid and the right to exploit the stupidity of others. Democrats as well as Republicans would be wise to take their cue from Norm’s classy and gracious concession speech.
July 2nd, 2009 at 10:57 am
Nothing new here.
Angry, vulgar Al and his angry, vulgar following.
How embarrassing for Minnesotans.
July 2nd, 2009 at 11:00 am
Nothing surprising here. Standard behavior from the DFL. I didn’t realize Leroy Jenkins has such white hair.
Congrats to Minnesota…the guy holding the sign is the same morally corrupt type of chimp that Angry Al is. Its only a matter of time until he’s confronted with a constituant and Al reacts like a school child, and vulgar one at that.
July 2nd, 2009 at 11:08 am
So Ryan, did your boss Sutton tell you to start repeating that “asterisk” talking point? Clever.
July 2nd, 2009 at 11:17 am
I think most of you will remember a time back during the Vietnam War era when a man wore a jacket that said “FUCK THE WAR”. It’s free speech. I’m in favor of protecting everyone’s right to free speech, not just the people that I choose to agree with. Keep your pants on guys; you won’t have to worry about really tearing down Al Franken until the election cycle in 2014. You probably want to focus on rebuilding for 2010 before you look all the way to 2014; there are lots of big elections happening before then. Maybe the best idea would be to focus on your weak congressional candidates Erik Paulsen and Michele Bachman and leave Al Franken for another day…
July 2nd, 2009 at 11:17 am
Classless indeed, but hardly worthy of an entry to this blog. Instead of focusing on such non-essential fair and crying over the courts 5-0 decision, why not get busy putting a plan together for 2010 and 2012. If anything, the rally they had yesterday should fire conservatives up because they (and all of their union buddies) just beat us. Time to retool and get going for 2010.
July 2nd, 2009 at 11:24 am
I.R. Informed is wise…now you guys just don’t have a smelly Democrat telling you it might be important to focus on 2010, the ReBublicans are saying it too (I can’t say I have ever seen anyone here refer to ReBublicans as smelly however)!
Best of luck guys, you’ll need it.
July 2nd, 2009 at 11:26 am
Integrity,
No one is even hinting that Angry, Vulgar Al and his angry, vulgar followers don’t have the right to be angry and vulgar.
It’s just the facts being reported. Granted, angry, vulgar DFLer’s is hardly news. It’s kind of like reporting that the sky is blue.
July 2nd, 2009 at 11:30 am
Come on KIS! Does this guy look angry to you??

Although I have to say that it’s cute that Ryan is defending “the boss”, you know the one, “Boss” Limbaugh.
July 2nd, 2009 at 11:33 am
So when the tea partiers were holding signs calling for the death of several Democratic members of congress, I assume you’d say that was awful as well?
Because I’ll agree, at least the second sign here was wrong — it had no place at this rally. (The first is off-tone, but probably less problematic overall).
FWIW, the fact that you found a grand total of two somewhat objectionable signs at the rally tends to suggest that this was less than an epidemic.
July 2nd, 2009 at 11:48 am
“Weak” Paulsen and Bachmann? I like that.
In a year when all the stars were lined up against Paulsen, he beat the snot out of Ashwipe Madia.
In a year when Big Media did everything short of turning their stations into anti-Bachmann propaganda machines, Bachmann still beat Tinky-Winky.
The Obamessiah’s number are plummeting and the DFL has overplayed their hand in Minnesota. 2010 is gonna be a good year for the GOP. Faux-Blue Dog Walz will be tossed and the Mn House and Senate will gain seats back to the GOP. Count on it.
July 2nd, 2009 at 11:51 am
It kind of reminds me of the Wellstone (so called) memorial.
This is DFL SOP. Steal an election and still maintain such grace in a win. Very classy.
July 2nd, 2009 at 12:15 pm
I drive past the DFL headquarters on a nearly daily basis. I think it was over the weekend, perhaps Monday, but well before the decision was made public, and the place was PACKED, a crowd of people outside, and it looked like they were making signs and posters. What did they know that the rest of the state didn’t know?
Usually the parking lot has a few vehicles in it, minivans even, among other gas-gulpers, but for a summer day with no active campaigns, it was a rare sight. Obviously this was leaked and the ‘impromptu’ rally was well-planned and those signs were made days ahead of time.
July 2nd, 2009 at 12:18 pm
Throughout the years, at any “conservative” event where people might be holding signs, I have never, ever, ever seen anything even remotely vulgar like that Limbaugh sign.
The idea that DFL’ers not only accept such signs but endorse them demonstrates yet again that liberals have no conscience.
July 2nd, 2009 at 12:45 pm
Average..
The Limbaugh sign is indeed vulgar, consistent with the message we endure from EIB on a daily basis.
I think it’s funny to watch GOP apologists wring their hands over objections to Rush and his message. Hilarious in fact.
July 2nd, 2009 at 12:46 pm
Average Joe – Did you see some of the signs at tea parties (a decidedly “conservative” event):
“The American taxpayers are the Jews for Obama’s ovens” – tinyurl.com/crms2q (with children right there; to quote this blog, “What a disgrace!”)
“Barrack Hussien Obama The new face of Hitler” – tinyurl.com/dmhd48
“Obama was NOT bowing. He was SUCKING Saudi JEWELS” – tinyurl.com/cse24h
You can have all the faux outrage against DFL sign you want, but don’t think stupidity isn’t bipartisan. Excusing or condoning signs like these on either side is ridiculous, so don’t claim “conservative” events are above this when that’s patently false.
July 2nd, 2009 at 12:49 pm
JB..
Deep down, Average knows it’s patently false. The level of denial he demostrates is classic.
July 2nd, 2009 at 1:21 pm
What offends me is the level of intelligence of the average liberal activist. It seems a few smart ones lead a herd of mindless lazy minded simple people. People with no abilities in really any area other than to wail while walking around crude signs in the air in a stomping trance of self righteous idiotic fury.
July 2nd, 2009 at 1:42 pm
Hey Average Joe,
Listen to Rush for a week and you’ll cringe if you have any integrity at all (I assume all do and we hype up the partisanship on MDE for the show).
In just two show, today and yesterday, Here are some of Rush’s quotes:
Today:
“We in heap big trouble — a little Indian lingo there”
“Obama admin creating chaos so people will sign up for your agenda”
“new national anthem of the banana republic of the United States” is Day-O”
“if we had any good luck, Honduras would send some people here and help us get our government back”
Yesterday
Limbaugh attacks Clinton while reading MSNBC article on “cankles” (making body jokes Rush?)
“Obama led Dems into doing everything he could to ensure the defeat of the U.S. military”
calls Franken a “genuine lunatic”
“You can legalize rape and call it the Civil Rights Act of 2009, it would probably pass”
He is an offensive bucket of shit that is only getting a fraction of what he gives out daily. Hardly an outrage for an unknown nonpublic figure to take that view with Rush- as if he’s given us any other way to view him.
I disagree with just about everyone on here, including some on the Left who can’t stop begging to be accepted by this blog but, with all of the name calling and fights, it doesn’t come close to what Rush puts out. Its just plain offensive to common sense and decency.
I don’t like Palin. I don’t find her particularly offensive.
Speaking of which, wasn’t it her (vice)-PRESIDENT rallies where people shouted out to kill Obama?
July 2nd, 2009 at 1:48 pm
What is the difference between listening to Rush and a sign held up in the public square? You can chose to listen to Rush. You must turn on the radio and tune in a specific radio station. The sign? If you were there or just walking by you saw it.
“I don’t like Palin. I don’t find her particularly offensive.”
Does that mean you only like offensive people DJZ?
July 2nd, 2009 at 1:49 pm
Did you see some of the signs at tea parties (a decidedly “conservative†event):
I noticed none of them were here, and all of them were on the Huffington Post. I doubt everything posted there.
The Limbaugh sign is indeed vulgar, consistent with the message we endure from EIB on a daily basis.
Please. Even you’re smarter than that.
Deep down, Average knows it’s patently false. The level of denial he demostrates is classic.
The fact is, deep down even you know that liberals are a crass, classless group of people in comparison to conservatives when it comes to things like this.
Now that we have Asterick Al as our Senator I fully expect the level of conversation to fall even further, with DFL endorsement, of course.
July 2nd, 2009 at 1:51 pm
By the way, I do appreciate the consistency by you liberals today. Defending the vulgar language by attempting to smear the target of the sign. You might not like what Rush says but none of those things are near the crap spoken by Hot Air America hosts. Not even close.

Hey less than Average Joe,
Feel free to post the quotes. You can throw it out there but can you back it up? Or,is this just like your claim that Margaret Anderson Kelliher changed her name recently?
You’ve been discredited, throwing up more garbage gives us yet another chance to laugh at you.
July 2nd, 2009 at 2:08 pm
I was at the rally and never saw either one of those signs. I find it highly suspicious that the pig sign featured on this site was held by people who seemed to be standing completely on their own nowhere near the 800 to 900 people at that rally. Anybody can post a picture of someone holding an offensive sign and make whatever claims they want to further their lying liars agenda. This blog has no credibility. I can tell you there was nothing but love at that rally, along with an abundance of joy and glee.
God Bless America!
July 2nd, 2009 at 2:11 pm
So,DJZ,
What made you think of the off-topic Margaret Kelliher reference?
…. the Rush sign?
July 2nd, 2009 at 2:25 pm
Jenna, Ah Hah! I cry Uncle it was I Mr. flying Spaghetti Monster who placed these pawns at the rally. Only to make you fine liberal avengers look bad…Uncle!!
July 2nd, 2009 at 2:34 pm
The geriatric fuck holding that sign is a fat tub of pig shit.
July 2nd, 2009 at 2:41 pm
Ziggy Dog Shit, there’s nothing offensive whatsoever about any of the quotes you got from Rush. Nothing at all. Particularly the fact that one really could legalize rape if they name the legislation “The Civil Rights Act of 2009.”
… for that matter, I’m sure 100,000 shit dippers would form a parade in support of creating national Hitler day, so long as you through a legalize gay marriage amendment in it.
It’s just facts. Not that we expect a retarded half-brained dog turd like David J. Ziegler to understand.
July 2nd, 2009 at 2:42 pm
“I don’t like Palin. I don’t find her particularly offensive.”
I’m sure you do. Facist Central at the DFL told you to be outraged. And for you, there’s no arguing with Facsist Central at the DFL HQ.
July 2nd, 2009 at 2:43 pm
“Speaking of which, wasn’t it her (vice)-PRESIDENT rallies where people shouted out to kill Obama?”
No, it wasn’t… That’s urban legend bullshit, concocted by Fascist Democrats and their racist agenda.
Besides, Joe Biden is a very good insurance policy against an assassination attempt.
July 2nd, 2009 at 2:50 pm
The old guy holding a sign looks a lot like DFL Don Shelby.
The woman in the red shirt behind him: Is that AC?
July 2nd, 2009 at 2:58 pm
That sign is just one example of how leftist mongrels train their whelps.
Within three years, that little fellow will be ready to throw his own scat at people during riots.
Senator Scumbag is the perfect representative for the party of Scrubs.
July 2nd, 2009 at 3:16 pm
“Senator Scumbag”
that would look really great on a sign.
July 2nd, 2009 at 3:17 pm
“leftist mongrels”
The only way left to respond to such eloquence is just to say “Arf!”.
July 2nd, 2009 at 3:19 pm
Below-average Joe,
You must be Pete, since you suffer from the same reading comprehension problems. Most of the “liberals” on this site said that last sign was vulgar. Read the thread. You’re a litte off in post #23.
July 2nd, 2009 at 3:39 pm
for the record.. I called the Rush sign vulgar, but I’m a moderate Democrat.
July 2nd, 2009 at 4:13 pm
AC,
Everyone including the guy with the sign knows it’s vulgar.
Angry Al knows he’s vulgar.
Yes, liberals agree that the sign is vulgar. But they think vulgar is OK, why else would they vote for the vulgar guy?

We didn’t vote for the vulgar guy. We voted for Al. Funny, but given Norm’s…er…reputation, it’s amazing that Al is the scumbag, but Norm is pure as driven snow.
July 2nd, 2009 at 4:35 pm
AC, you are one of the liberals who did not say that sign was vulgar.
You had that opportunity in post #4 but instead chose to attempt to change the topic by taking a cheap shot at Ryan.
You’re way off in post #38.

July 2nd, 2009 at 8:18 pm
Jeeze….Senator Scumbag has the whole mongrel pack in a tizzy. Even Feckless Jeffy interrupts his tear stained letter long enough to stick his head up out of the sewer and make an appearance.
Nice to see you Jeffy, but don’t you have to polish your honorary uterus, touch up that yellow stripe, or something?
Run along now, like a good girl.
July 2nd, 2009 at 8:21 pm
Is Al a Senator? I hadn’t realized that he had already been sworn in to the US Senate. When did that occur?
July 2nd, 2009 at 8:33 pm
“Rush Limbaugh is a big fat tub of pig shit.” Lib-speak for “I can`t refute his facts so i`ll call him names.”
July 2nd, 2009 at 8:48 pm
It’s funny. Minnesotans got all bent out of shape over the buffoons “Fargo” made of them, and then they go and outdo anything Hollywood could ever come up with.
We still haven’t worked our way out of Senator “Pass the sedatives” Dayton’s disgraceful, cowardly behavior, and now the mongrels steal a seat for Senator Scumbag.
Almost makes a guy wish for the relative quiet of the “Governor Goofy” days….what the hell is wrong with you mutts? No, really.
July 2nd, 2009 at 8:59 pm
Al Franken* was a disgrace to Minnesota even before became senator-elect. Even Betty Mac was against Franken*, before she was for him.
July 2nd, 2009 at 9:02 pm
Come on Focused…what are you going to say when he IS sworn in? What is going to disqualify him from being called Senator Franken then? Are you saying you that you dispute the fact that he is going to be sworn in even though he has been declared the winner by several different bodies, and the election has been certified by Governor Pawlenty?
We all might not agree with the person who was elected to represent the state of Minnesota in the Senate, but the fact is that he was chosen by the people of Minnesota. Even if you think that Mark Riche was unfair during the recount, wouldn’t that be picked up and “exposed†by the 3 judge panel? Or the Minnesota Supreme Court? How deep does this conspiracy run for you guys?
It’s time to face the facts, no matter how hard it is. Al Franken won fair and square and now deserves the respect of being called Senator Franken and has earned the right to represent Minnesota in the Senate. It’s as simple as that.
July 2nd, 2009 at 9:09 pm
Integrity, next week Franken* will have obtained the title of Senator Franken*.
July 2nd, 2009 at 9:18 pm
Chili-
Include all the * and other symbols you like. No matter what, Senator-Elect Al Franken will become Senator Al Franken, and his vote will be worth just as much as any of the other 99 votes in the Senate. There isn’t anything more that you can do. This one is in the books. No amount of childish name calling can change that now.
July 2nd, 2009 at 9:42 pm
When he is sworn in Al will be Senator. Until then he has not earned the title.
“his vote will be worth just as much as any of the other 99 votes in the Senate” – spoken like a true Democrat, Al’s vote will go to the highest bidder huh?
July 2nd, 2009 at 10:03 pm
Actually, he has earned it. He won an election. Gillibrand from New York was appointed. She hasn’t earned it.
Its of little consequence if he’s been sworn in at this moment, he’s been elected by the people to serve as Senator. His election has been certified by the special judicial panel, Supreme Court, the Chief election officer/SecState, and the Governor.
Who gives a rats ass when Focused comes around?
You Republicans got balls the size of Krypton to complain about an election. You stole the whole thing in 2000 and 2004 (Florida, Ohio, New Mexico).
You seem not to about to stop whining about everyone being against you. Its not everyone, its just the voters.
July 3rd, 2009 at 12:03 am
DJZ,
Like Angry Al and the rest of you DemocRATS, you can dish it out but you sure as hell can’t take it. Ever read one of Al’s books? Did you see him pull his fist back in anger against Laura Ingraham and her producers (which he did in NYC during the 2004 RNC)? Ever read the things said on the Daily Kooks or the HuffPo? Your party invented the politics of personal destruction.

I take the oath of office seriously even if people like DJZ and Obama think its a joke.
“Upon taking office, Senators-elect must swear or affirm that they will “support and defend the Constitution.” The president of the Senate or a surrogate administers the oath to newly elected or re-elected Senators. The oath is required by the Constitution; the wording is prescribed by law.”
July 3rd, 2009 at 10:18 am
Hey Chrissy, why would I be interested on your computer chair?
July 3rd, 2009 at 10:19 am
DJZ:
He didn’t win the election. His lawyers might have earned it by convincing the counties that might have Franken votes to recount what might be Franken votes while against the mantra of every vote counts making no effort to encourage the Republican leaning counties to recount votes.
Norm Coleman on election day had the most votes. The problem is that the election was run so incompetently by DFL cities (Minneapolis for starters) to allow a horrible mess which Franken’s lawyers expoltied.
I’m sorry DJZ, but you have no right at all to claim Franken earned when there are multiple precints in this state where there were more votes for Senator than people who showed up to vote. The opposite is usually true there are more voters who showed up than voted.
Given this fact alone Franken didn’t earn it!
Walter Hanson
Minneapolis, MN
July 3rd, 2009 at 10:35 am
Well, well, if isn’t my favorite taxpayer leech Walter Hanson. A self-hating public employee.
Walter, you keep believing that along with your search for Obama’s birth certificate.
Chrissy wrote:
“Your party invented the politics of personal destruction.”
If you want to be honest here, both of us,
it was the rise of Clinton, that gave Republicans like Newt Gingrich a character aspect to hit on. Entertainers/Talk Show Hosts like Limbaugh used it to paint the whole party with that character broad brush to the point that some Democrats were too quick to point out that there were not liberals, later progressives.
After the failure to remove Clinton post his impeachment and the very public character failing of some Republican leaders (Gingrich, Livingston, Hyde) liberal groups begin fighting back in kind (or loud enough for anyone to hear them) and you saw groups like MoveOn.org rise, talk show hosts on the left get some airtime and Character(personal) attacks ramp up.
You may think we invented it but, I listened to the old AirAmerica shows and read Al’s books. The vast majority of time was spent repeating Republican rhetoric and then taking it apart. No, we didn’t invent the politics of personal destruction, we just learned how to play it as well as you guys-almost.
Hell, you impeached our guy for lying about a blowjob. You’ve got a President who led us into an unnecessary war that won two elections with real questions! We gave him a pension and secret service protection. He needs a grand jury!
The day we can worry about having the balls to bring the former President to justice is the day you need to be very worried.
My Democrats will never be that disciplined or united. So, all you get is a verbal lashing.
July 3rd, 2009 at 11:59 am
DJZ, Clinton was impeached was impeached for lying under oath and trying to cover up that crime.
Fellatio wasn’t the only thing Clinto lied about. He also lied about performing anilingus on a fat chick while she was menstruating.

2010, even now that it’s well past the noon hour, I’ll leave out the details of the tainted cigar.
July 3rd, 2009 at 1:52 pm
DJZ,
Bullshit! What about all of the women Clinton chased, groped, fondled, harassed and screwed — and then had the balls to sic his attack dogs against and call them bimbos, whores, sluts, etc.? Bill Clinton used the White House as an attack machine against all of his enemies: political or otherwise. He made Richard Nixon and Lyndon Johnson look like rank amateurs.
As far as I’m concerned, Davey, you can sit and spin:

July 3rd, 2009 at 1:56 pm
P.S. DJZ,
Rush Limbaugh was/is exactly right about the Democrat party. You are all a bunch of liberals and now, even, socialists. Let’s look at the government take over of the car companies, the climate bill which even provides for government inspections of homes prior to sale for energy audits, the porkulus bill which has yet to create jobs, all of Obama’s czars “managing” entire sectors of our economy, and soon the attempt to nationalize health care and take over that sector. Hardly moderation, Davey.
July 3rd, 2009 at 2:38 pm
Chris you’re leaving out the “high-tech lynching” of Clarence Thomas.
July 3rd, 2009 at 5:40 pm
My grampy Moshe used to call me Davey.
I must say there was a lot less hostility in his delivery.
I don’t know what else to say Chrissy. Rush has proven himself to be the absolute worst example of America’s superiority. The worst.
There is nothing noble, honest, integral, or admirable (except that paycheck) about the man. He’s worst than any politician or a hateful individual as he has none of the accountability or balls.
It says a lot about you, that you admire and honor such an individual.
You guys lost an election, not a war. Suck it up and come back without trying to completely discredit the humanity of your opposition.
Are you skilled enough to do that?
July 3rd, 2009 at 5:58 pm
By the way, due to the celebration of our nation’s independence tomorrow, I will take a 24 hour break from you chuckleheads bickering zone, and recognize you as fellow countrymen. Which you are.
Until midnight tonight though- its still on let’s hear from you.
July 3rd, 2009 at 6:11 pm
Hopefully, the massive over-spending in Washington will put plenty of money aside for the Republicans to buy kleenex. Every time I turn around, they’re crying about their feelings being hurt. Noam Chomsky said that the most worthy defense of free speech is defending the speech least worthy of being defended. Fighting for the guys who agree with you means nothing. When some of you partisan sheep stand up for what’s right instead of what’s best for you and your buddies, America will be a much better place.
Until then, I’ll make sure to sing you losers to sleep while you cry over Franken’s victory and naughty language on a sign. Nobody cares about your whining and nobody’s going to vote for a bunch of hypocritical babies who have suddenly decided that the right to vote is important. Disenfranchising a hundred thousand black people in Florida illegally, creating and supporting voting machines with no paper trail that can be easily hacked (Re: Florida Republican congressman who paid a computer expert to steal the election for him) and calling Al Gore a sore loser for wanthing to have a recount.
Note to the hypocritical crying losers: acting like babies does not impress us. Prepare to lose a whole lot more if you don’t change your ways.
July 3rd, 2009 at 6:23 pm
DJZ, how are you going to celebrate the 4th, by burning some flags?
July 3rd, 2009 at 6:38 pm
DJZ,
Me thinks you doth protest too much about Rush. Ever actually listen to his show? It’s amazing to hear you people smear the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Fox News. As many millions that actually listen to him (as opposed to people who pretend to listen and take soundbites out of context off of far left websites) and watch Fox, it’s axiomatic that they aren’t all right wing conservatives.
By the way I’d take Rush’s rhetoric any day over the absolute hate that’s spewed on the Daily Kooks or over on MSNBC. The kind of hate that you yourself bring here every time you post. I’m not going to accept that you’re taking the high road this Fourth of July. You may not be here, but your attitude towards your political opponents isn’t going to be checked at the door.

Sam the Communist,
I’m not impressed by your B.S. either. There is no evidence — let alone proof — that anyone was disinfranchised in Florida let alone a conspiracy to cook the vote tallies. You are a Kool Aid drinker and you better be careful what they spike it with Sam.
July 3rd, 2009 at 7:03 pm
Listen Chrissy,
You’re just that- a political opponent, not an enemy to the state.
No, I’m not going to become a Republican on 4th. I’m going to rise above the divide and reflect on being an American. Just a plain ol’ American. Who cares what I think about conservatives? They are still Americans.
The difference between those like you, and those like me is that your political ideology seems to rise above everything in your life. Therefore you can’t see anyone who believes different as being patriotic or having the right to even call themselves an American.
You, Chile and chestnut need the 4th more than anybody. Our Founders were not political allies at all. There were fights and even a couple of duels, yes the pulling of guns to make a point. However, they know where the line was and that they enemy was the Crown, not the strong National structure that Hamilton desired, or the loose agrarian society Jefferson spoke of or the imperialistic state that Monroe believed in. It was little of all and most of none.
Your attitude of conservative politics IS Americanism is, well its xenophobic and dangerous to the Republic. Treasonous? Maybe.
—————–
For the most part chile, I’ll be cooking out, drinking beer, playing with kiddies, hanging with neighbors and family, and setting off our fireworks before watching the main display.
What are you going to do? Burn a cross?
July 3rd, 2009 at 8:06 pm
Why would I burn a cross?
Noteworthy Point: Cross Burning is a “Hate Crime” while flag burning is free speech.
As far as fights and duels: http://www.minnesotademocratsexposed.com/2008/05/07/senator-murphy-challenges-pawlenty-spokesman-to-a-fight/
Meanwhile in New York is they slighty more civil, with Democratic Legislators shutting off lights and locking the chamber doors to keep Republicans out.
July 4th, 2009 at 1:35 am
DJZ,
Piss off. You are such a hypocrite it’s not even funny. You sit there and preach that you’re above partisanship while calling people who disagree with you treasonous. Go F-yourself.
July 4th, 2009 at 9:57 am
Cross Burning is a “Hate Crime†while flag burning is free speech.
I wouldn’t think either crossburning or flag burning would be hate crimes.
July 4th, 2009 at 10:01 am
Chili-
Are you saying that burning the flag is not free speech? Unless this another case where there was a conspiracy within the court, check the SCOTUS records to read about it.
There is a clear distinction between the connotations of burning a cross and burning the flag. Even danbrome knows that.
Sam was right in his previous post about free speech. The true test is allowing a person to speak and advocate about things that make your blood boil. All speech is free and protected, not just the speech you happen to agree with. You’ve heard the cliché that freedom isn’t free I’m sure; this sort of free speech is a good example.
July 4th, 2009 at 10:56 am
Happy Fourth you crazy bastards!
Its a unique and wonderful country where we change power between opposing views and there is no bloodshed.
Remember, our founders had big problems with each other too. There was strong philosophies on how to run the new government and some had others followed and spied on to be sure they could be trusted.
What we do here is no different except we dont’ do it face to face.
July 4th, 2009 at 1:40 pm
Integrity, have someone read this for you …
“Noteworthy Point: Cross Burning is a “Hate Crime†while flag burning is free speech.”
I’m well aware that the Supreme Court has ruled flag burning is free speech. I guess that when you wipe your ass with the flag that is free speech as well.
July 4th, 2009 at 1:49 pm
Integrity Says:
July 4th, 2009 at 10:01 am
“All speech is free and protected, not just the speech you happen to agree with.”
Actually, there many upon many restrictions to free speech. You’re ignorance is astounding, even danbrome knows that.
July 4th, 2009 at 3:00 pm
Chile-
I am well aware that there are limits on free speech. I shouldn’t have said “all speech” and assumed everyone would understand. I guess I need to explain things a little bit more.
What I was trying to point out is that all speech that has been deemed by the Constitution and/or the courts to be “free” is protected. The point is that not all speech that has been labeled as “free” is going to be something that you will agree with. That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t deserve the same defense and protection as speech that you do agree with.
Just because you might not agree with flag burning being protected under free speech doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t fight tooth and nail to keep that speech free.
July 4th, 2009 at 4:12 pm
Integrity, words do mean things.
Flag burning – won of the worst SCOTUS decisions ever. Desecration of the flag is treason.
Since the SCOTUS decision, both the House and Senate have repeatedly supported a proposed constitutional ammendment, making flag desecration illegal. The repeated attempts at passing a resolution have failed only because the Senate has never reached the 2/3 requirement for passage.
Liberals like Reid and Feinstein have voted in favor of it. Hell, even the mollycoddled Mark Dayton voted for it.
July 4th, 2009 at 4:37 pm
chile-
Americans have fought and died to protect the freedoms we take for granted every day. Freedoms such as the freedom of speech. Burning the flag is protected under free speech. You can disagree with the SCOTUS on the decision, but that still doesn’t change the facts.
Burning the flag is not treason; it is a protected form of speech. Don’t confuse your emotions with what the facts are.
July 4th, 2009 at 5:28 pm
You’re right. I agree that the sign is vulgar, and it makes that one man look foolish. But that is his problem. I could care less.
July 4th, 2009 at 6:21 pm
Integrity, you couldn’t be more wrong. Americans and fought and died to protect freedoms and the flag.
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_7qdIEfnHoDg/Rb54RAdpDwI/AAAAAAAAANM/sMp1AWBmE9U/iwa+jima.jpg
What are you going to say next, that Americans and fought and died for the right to kill babies???
July 4th, 2009 at 7:13 pm
Chile-
Those men and women who died defending our freedom didn’t defend it just for some of us, or for just some of the aspects of our freedoms, they died defending ALL of them. That’s the part you’re not understanding. They defended the symbol of our country, the flag, and they also defended our right as free American to burn that flag in protest. That’s a fact that you can’t argue against. Plain and simple.
July 4th, 2009 at 7:32 pm
Integrity, I really don’t think they were fighting for the terrorists among us. Do you? I bet you were won of those that spit on Viet Nam vets when they returned home – free speech and all.
When you get done with burning flags on this Fourth of July, save up your contempt for this country for a few months. Wait until Veterans Day, go to a Veterans Day celebration and try another one of your flag burnings. I predict those veterans will exercise their right to kick your ass.
Integrity: Promoting Flag Burning on July 4. 2009
July 5th, 2009 at 12:23 am
chile..
I’m afraid Integrity has it right. Your latest response demostrates your childish behavior when confronted with an opinion you disagree with.
I respect your right to hold whatever position you want about the flag, including wringing your hands when reminded that flag burning is currently a protected right.
However, your rant that falsely accuses Integrity of being a flag burner is uncalled for, and frankly immature. Integrity is a good man, and does not deserve the insult you just delivered to him.
July 5th, 2009 at 1:01 am
brone,
Who asked you anyway?
Integrity,
I’d equate cross burning and flag burning as being equally vile. If one is protected under the First Amendment, I think both should be. Otherwise, it would be fine by me if both were punishable by law.
July 5th, 2009 at 1:12 pm
Intergity,
It almost makes you want to beat the shit out of them, doesn’t it. The chiles of the world are a true test.
If he left the country today, it would be instantly better.
He proclaims to ignorantly love his country but strongly hate his countrymen.
A weak and tragic individual.
July 5th, 2009 at 1:30 pm
Chris, if it hadn’t become the signature of the KKK years ago, Liberal danbrome and Integrity would be burning crosses left and right – as hatred towards christianity.
Cross burning is a hate crime. Flag burning – as a symbol of hatred towards the United States of America – is not.
Integrity’s position is that – “Those men and women who died defending our freedom didn’t defend it just for some of us, or for just some of the aspects of our freedoms, they died defending ALL of them.”
My position is that they fought to protect us and the rest of the free world from from tyrants, kings, and dictators – who wanted to take our freedoms away. Those who fought prior to 1989 didn’t do so to protect the right to burn a flag. I seriously doubt those who’ve fought since have done so either.
Liberal danbrome and Integrity, this one’s or you … http://z.about.com/d/politicalhumor/1/0/k/F/pricelessflagburner.jpg
July 5th, 2009 at 1:57 pm
DJZ, did you have fun yesterday drinking beer and shooting of fireworks? What “fellow countrymen” did you hang out with, Bill Ayers and Reverend Wright?
For one day DJZ decides to put aside his anti-American hope-and-change-socialism bullshit, and consider himself a patriot.
Come July 5th it’s time for take off his plastic Uncle Sam hat. There is much more progessive work to be done by his socialist heroes. Up next: Socialized medicine and the Fart Tax.
July 5th, 2009 at 3:18 pm
chile..
Are you truly so dense.
Neither Integrity or I would ever participate in a cross or flag burning. We love our country just as much as you do.
The point is that flag burning is currently a protected right, even though neither of us would exercise this right.
As with every other issue you choose to debate here, your tunnel vision has prevented you from accepting any point of view that you don’t agree with.
You have every right to disagree with current law, but I suggest you stick with the facts and skip the pompous babble.
July 5th, 2009 at 3:21 pm

Regarding post #103..
Why are you so bitter? Is it Former Senator Norm Coleman’s gracious concession that has you so pissed off?
July 5th, 2009 at 4:52 pm
Liberal danbrome, no where in post #103 did I mention Norm Coleman or Al Franken*. Why are you so bitter danbrome, is about Assboy Madia less than gracious defeat to Erik Paulsen?
Liberal danbrome: pro abortion
Liberal danbrome: pro flag burning
July 5th, 2009 at 5:46 pm
DJZ,
Your mother should have held her water and drowned you. You know, people like you are dangerous. You actually advocate government action against people you disagree with or otherwise envy. Conservatives on the other hand just want to live our own lives and be left alone — and leave others alone as well.
You’d actually do very well in Iran right now. You’re the type that would be turning into the Mullahs the people who are marching in the street for their freedoms. It’s a sad day when our president is on the side of the Mullahs and not the Iranian people marching for freedom.
July 5th, 2009 at 5:50 pm
P.S. DJZ,
Your union-thug mentality doesn’t impress me much. The last time I personally saw the union-thugs in action was in Rochester during the 2004 campaign. A couple of union thugs elbowed a 75 year old man in the ribs for carrying a Bush-Cheney sign across the street from a DFL event.
Fortunately, the Supreme Court upheld the Second Amendment which gives me the right to defend myself if someone like you ever tried to “beat the shit” out of me.
July 5th, 2009 at 6:16 pm
chris..
You are demonstrating that you are not only pompous, but vile and threatening too. I thought that was Chestnut’s job here.
How much credibility do you think you have after saying to DJZ..
“Your mother should have held her water and drowned you.”
Grow up. I’m serious.
July 5th, 2009 at 6:20 pm
Both Norm Coleman and Ashwin Madia were gracious in defeat. You are a fool to think otherwise.
July 5th, 2009 at 6:23 pm
Chrissy said: Your mother should have held her water and drowned you.
The true consistency of a pro-lifer.
That old man should be damn happy he wasn’t a targeted of one of you right wingers. He could be dead like the doctor, security guard, church goers or the cops.
You guys lose a few elections and you get murderous. Like a bunch of subjects used to their tin pot dictator.
July 5th, 2009 at 6:32 pm
I think Former Senator Coleman’s loss is hitting Chris especially hard.
July 5th, 2009 at 6:36 pm
Liberal danbrome, would you have preferred if DJZ’s mother had aborted him?
July 5th, 2009 at 6:44 pm
DJZ, the old man wouldn’t have had a chance against Abdulhakim Muhammad, one of your people.
Chris, easy on DJZ’s mom. How was she to know she was going to give birth to the devil child? I don’t think that ultrasound at the time could have detected the little horns growing from his head – and they weren’t yet pointy enough for her to feel them.
July 5th, 2009 at 7:04 pm
DJZ,
You prove yourself to be a coward of the worst kind: someone who can dish it out and can’t take it. Although that is the typcial M.O. of a schoolyard bully.
damnbrone,
I’m not the one who said as follows:

Nice work, Chile! I’ve been on the receiving end of a few of dambrone’s profanity-laced rants.
brome,
There is also a difference between implying that I might beat someone up and stating that it would have been better off had that person not been born. For example, Hugo Chavez’ mother should have held her water and drowned him.

You are a hypocrite and a meathead. I do not recall any of your “opponents” pete, dash or myself calling you profane and vulgar names. You’re like DJZ: you can sure dish it out but you can’t take it. Do your wife and kids know you spend time on here calling people f**kers and c**ksuckers? I’m sure they would be very proud of you.

brone,
Since you’ve made the allegation, I’d like you to find where chile, dash or myself called you a f**ker or a co*ksucker. Please cut and paste the instance or kiss off.
Telling lies has become a pattern for you. First saying you’re a moderate and now falsely claiming that you were swore at first. It seems you’re the one with the recall problem.
