MUST READ FROM THE PIONEER PRESS: “STATE GOP FILES CAMPAIGN COMPLAINT OVER ST. PAUL MAYOR”

By Aaron Cocking | September 24, 2009

“The Republican Party of Minnesota filed a complaint Wednesday against St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman, a Democrat, with the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board, accusing Coleman of spending his mayoral re-election campaign money on what amounts to a campaign for governor in violation of state law.

Campaign finance complaints are common in campaign season, and Coleman is running for re-election in November against GOP-endorsed first-time candidate Eva Ng. If the campaign finance board determines Coleman spent more than $100 from his mayoral campaign on expenses that were for the purpose of a gubernatorial nomination, he could be sanctioned.

Coleman, who is considering a 2010 run for governor, will have a chance to respond before the board makes a determination, which could be next month or November.” Source:  Pioneer Press, September 23, 2009
