MN SRC PRESS RELEASE: “SENATE GOP PETITION ATTORNEY GENERAL FOR URGENT ACORN INVESTIGATION”
By Luke Hellier | October 13, 2009
(ST. PAUL)– Minnesota Senate Republicans today made an urgent request that Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson appoint an independent special counsel to investigate the Minnesota office of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), a major participant in the registration of new voters in the state.
In 2008, Minnesota ACORN claimed it registered about 43,000 voters. This figure was about 75 percent of the state’s new registrations.
“Minnesota has a proud tradition of fair, democratic elections,†said Senator Amy Koch, assistant Republican leader from Buffalo. “The integrity of our elections is not negotiable, and the attorney general has the responsibility to investigate whether the alleged fraud that is being questioned widely across the nation is also an issue in Minnesota.â€
Since this summer, ACORN has been under investigation by at least 15 other states for election law and other violations, the Census Bureau has cut ties to the organization, and Congress has taken steps to cut funding. Members of Congress have accused ACORN of partisan influence in elections, conspiracy and money laundering.
A July 2009 report by the ranking member of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform report said that nearly 70 ACORN employees have been convicted in 12 states for voter-registration fraud.
The letter was unanimously signed by the 21 members of the caucus.

In other words, Darrell Issa sent out a press release. Is it really the position of the senate Republican caucas that the attorney general of Minnesota should initiate an investigation based on a California Congressman’s unsupported word?

It’s the position of the SRC that ACORN be investigated because they are dirty.

Acorn should just reincorporate as a for profit entity. That way they would gain GOP support by default.

Jude, and Democrats would call them evil by default.

It would be nice if they had some evidence. And really, wouldn’t checking out those 43,000 new voter registrations be a better use of the state’s time?
