2 CANDIDATES GET IN THE RACE AGAINST PAULSEN

By Luke Hellier | November 4, 2009

Today the Star Tribune and Politics in Minnesota have separate stories about two different challengers to Rep. Erik Paulsen in Minnesota’s Third Congressional District.

From Star Tribune:

Minnetonka doctor to challenge Paulsen for Congress

By Baird Helgeson

Dr. Maureen Hackett, a forensic psychiatrist from Minnetonka, has taken the first steps to challenge U.S. Rep. Erik Paulsen in the 2010 race for Minnesota’s 3rd District Congressional seat.

Hackett formed a campaign committee and has a campaign web site under construction.

An online biography says she consults for organizations experiencing problems with executive and employee distress. Companies often hire her when they have concerns about an executive’s fitness for duty. Before that, she was a psychiatrist in the U.S. Air Force and conducted emotional fitness evaluations for technicians, pilots and commanding officers.

And from Politics in Minnesota:

Meffert to Run in 3rd District

Speculation had been ramping up recently about Edina DFLer and Optometric Association lobbyist Jim Meffert making a run for Erik Paulsen‘s (R-MN3) seat (see MN Progressive Project and Polinaut). Today, Politics in Minnesota received a tip that Meffert filed his campaign paperwork yesterday, and is in the race. Meffert will have at least one challenger for the DFL endorsement; Dr. Maureen Hackett of Minnetonka has also formed a committee.

In 2008, Rep. Paulsen faced political newcomer Ashwin Madia (who beat State Senator Terri Bonoff) by a sizable margin.  Madia has gone on record saying he doesn’t really have an interest in running again.  But I wouldn’t assume the same for Bonoff.  There is some talk that she may get into the race.  If she does decide to run for the DFL endorsement I would expect her to be the front runner for the nomination.

So what’s their beef? “Paulsen should have voted to raise our taxes, he should have voted to add trillions to the deficit, and he should have voted to have the government take over the entire health care industry and make us a socialist country”.

Yeah, that’s going to fly in the 3rd district.

Average_Joe. To date their not much to point to where he voted diffently than Ramstad would have. Ramstad was a moderate, but the Demcorats still hated him for most of his 18 years in Congress.

It was when campaigning against Paulsen, supporters of Madia started comparing him to Ramstad, as if they suddenly agreed with his policies.

Check out liberal danbrome making the same post in the same publication, four times. What an idiot!
