At issue is an amendment to the Pentagon spending bill that would bar “future and existing” federal contracts to defense contractors and subcontractors “at any tier” who mandate employees go through a company’s arbitration process for workplace discrimination claims — including claims of sexual assault. The measure passed 68-30, with 10 Republicans voting yes and 30 voting no. Those 30 Republican Senators who voted NO, sided with the Defense Contractors.

Sen. Franken's amendment was the right thing to do. He has turned down offers to appear on various cable shows to discuss this. Nor has he had anything to do with coordinating the barrage of attacks waged against the Republicans who voted against the amendment.

Sen. Al Franken doesn't suffer fools gladly. Even I applauded him on this amendment when I spoke with him a few weeks ago at an ewvent.

So why is it Al Franken's responsibility to be the PR person for the GOP on this issue? Those GOP Senators stepped in it themselves and if they can not explain their vote adequately, that is their own problem.

This article just makes it worse. It makes the GOP look incompetent. "Hey, we did something that makes us look bad. But it's Franken's fault for not stepping in and helping us look good."
