MNGOP: THE KELLEY RECORD – PART III

By Luke Hellier | December 8, 2009

THE KELLEY RECORD

Perennial Candidate, Extreme Liberal, Obstacle To Reform

KELLEY IS OBSTACLE TO EDUCATION REFORM

Kelley Considers Himself The “Education Candidate.” “As the education candidate, who better to run my campaign than someone who has been in the trenches in one of our great public schools?” (Steve Kelley, “A Letter From Steve About His Campaign Manager,” Steve Kelley for Minnesota website, August 3, 2009)

But Kelley Fought To Keep Broken Education Standards In Place. “The vote was left open for about 45 minutes to wait for three absent DFLers, including Senator Kelley, to arrive and save the Profiles from extinction.  The final vote was 33-33, causing the repeal effort to fail.  State Senator Warren Limmer (R) said of the effort ‘You have to wonder why they [Profile supporters] are taking almost heroic efforts to preserve the Profile of Learning.’” (Anthony Lonetree, “Profile of Learning survives repeal effort in Senate,” Star Tribune, April 23, 2002)
