THE TRUTH ABOUT MADORE’S SPENDING IN 2008
By Luke Hellier | December 9, 2009
Liberals have contended that conservatives spent hundreds of thousands of dollars more than Madore and her allies on the race for State House in District 37A. However, the information below proves that to be incorrect and in fact liberal groups outspent conservative groups by over $45,000.
Democrats should end their sob story that Madore was just a victim of conservative groups and start to realize her views were too extreme with the district. Those same extreme views now that she intends on using to promote her candidacy against Congressman John Kline.

The difference is in the respective contributions of the state parties. Apart from party contributions, Tara did pretty well. The two big dogs were the “Jobs Political Fund” and the “Teachers Union” whatever that might be.

Luke:
I don’t mean to sound picky, but it looks like the margin was only $35,000 not $45,000. Still your basic point the person was outspent by hundreds of thousands of dollars being a lie is proven. The alarming thing is if Madore thinks she was outspent how much will Madore need to spend to think enough money is being spent.

A House district covers about 36,000 people. Even a $100,000 seems like a lot … little or no TV/radio ads, paid staff, etc. – just a few news ads, mailers, campaign signs.
I would expect a mayoral candidate in a town of 36,000 to spend 10-20K at the high end. How much to state reps usually spend in a competitive race?

I know. The numbers do strike me as incredibly high on both sides.
I should note, a lot of this money wasn’t actually spent by the candidates. They control their campaign money, but not the money spent by others. In that respect, Tara did better in fundraising than Madore, but not by the hugest of margins, and I don’t think it’s that common for a challenger to out raise an incumbent.
This seat was targeted by conservative groups, but I don’t think that’s anything to sob about.
