SD26 SPECIAL ELECTION OPEN THREAD
By Luke Hellier | December 13, 2009
Bluestem Prairie is reporting that State Rep. Patti Fritz is not running as the DFL candidate for Senate. Â I am still hearing rumors from that area that State Rep. Kory Kath is considering a run. Â I should have more information on that tonight.
There are also a few Republicans contemplating a run.
Feel free to comment about the race.

I hope Kath runs. He’s a partisan DFL hack in a conservative district. It would also put quite a chink in his armor for his House re-election considering he’s only been in office for one year.

Kath got 56% of the vote in 2008 for an open seat. Fritz also runs well in the district. Dick Day, a long time and well known incumbent received 54% of the vote in 2006 which suggested that he was not an invulnerable incumbent, although I do believe he would have been re-elected had he not decided to quit his job to become a gambling lobbyist.
On the whole, I would say the seat is definitely in play.
