MNGOP: THE JOHN MARTY RECORD PART III

By Luke Hellier | December 22, 2009

MARTY IS RELIABLE PRO-TAX VOTE

Marty Called For Massive Tax increases During Failed 1994 Campaign For Governor. “It was in contrast to Marty, 38, who called for increasing income taxes by $ 300 million a year on the wealthiest 4 percent of Minnesotans.”  (Robert Whereatt, “Grams, Carlson victors; GOP controls Congress,” Star Tribune, November 9, 1994)

Marty Voted For Higher Income Taxes. “One tax increase that Democrats, including Marty, put into the bill would set a new income-tax rate on individuals who earn more than $135,000 a year and on families earning more than about $250,000.” (Patrick Sweeney, “Committee oks income, cigarette tax increases,” Pioneer Press, May 11, 2003)

Marty Backed Sales Tax Increase. “After faltering in the Senate Taxes Committee a couple of weeks ago, a conservation legacy bill resurfaced today, and easily cleared that committee after it was changed to a pure sales tax increase.  The change, proposed by Sen. John Marty, DFL-Roseville, isn’t expected to last long, however. The measure now heads to the Senate Rules Committee, where the bill’s sponsor, Sen. Larry Pogemiller, DFL-Minneapolis, is the committee chairman. He said he will try to change it back to a proposed constitutional amendment and then move it on to the Senate floor. The proposal involves spending about $300 million a year on the outdoors, clean water and the arts.”  (Dennis Lien, “Proposal to dedicate money to outdoors, arts still alive,” Pioneer Press, May 9, 2007)

Marty Voted To Raise State Gas Tax, Metro Wide Sales Tax And License Tab Fees. (H.F. 2800, February 25, 2008)
