SANTA BRINGS TEAM CLARK A LUMP OF COAL

By Luke Hellier | December 22, 2009

As posted on MDE earlier today, Public Policy Polling has Congresswoman Michele Bachmann polling a full 18% points above Taxin’ Tarryl Clark.

Andrea Mokros, spokeswoman for Senator Clark filed this statement with the St. Cloud Times:

“It’s plenty early.  In a district with the state’s highest unemployment rates and the highest foreclosure rates, people need more than a ‘polarizing’ figure, with almost half of those asked saying she’s more interested in being a conservative leader than an advocate for them.  Ask this question again when we’ve had a chance to cut through Congresswoman Bachmann’s relentless FOX News spin and introduce ourselves to voters, and remind them of her efforts to block jobs and much-needed reform, and take a pass on any and all efforts to deliver real results for the district,” Mokros said.

“Tarryl has already been elected in a district that is a microcosm of the 6th, proving she can win over Democrats, Republicans and independents.  When people get to know Tarryl – this will be a race.”

Clearly, this poll has hit a nerve with Team Clark.  As Mokros says, “When people get to know Tarryl – this will be a race.”  Funny thing is, the people who already do know Tarryl have a strong unfavorable rating of her.  Having a 20% unfavorable number this early in the race should be troubling for Clark’s campaign.  The people of the sixth district will not be fooled by Clark’s overly zealous tax record and hyper partisan approach at the capitol.

Furthermore, their tersely worded statement also gives us a glimpse into the Clark message machine’s strategy: Clark isn’t for anything, only against Michele Bachmann.

Perhaps Mokros and Co. should consider heading back to the drawing board, because this poll shows that their strategy just ain’t gonna cut it.

Meanwhile, the Reed campaign played it smart and hasn’t commented on the poll (as of the time this post went up). Not legitimizing the poll by overreacting to it (a la Team Clark) was a smart move indeed.

You know what is shocking with their spin. In 2008 Michelle Bachmann became famous and hated for just one statement when interviewed by Chris Matthews.

What else does she have to do to be hated by the public. The things that the Clark campaign thinks will make people vote for Clark is why they’re supporting Bachmann.

This press release shows she doesn’t understand what the voters of the sixth district want.

I was called for this poll. What’s interesting is they didn’t give results for all the questions. There were quite a few questions about who I would vote for as governor. They included Norm Coleman in many of those questions.

It’s no surprise that Michelle will trounce all comers and also that today in the US House, a Democrat jumped ship and became a Republican.

Should be a rout of the dems in 2010.
