SD26 SPECIAL ELECTION UPDATES

By Luke Hellier | December 28, 2009

Both the Republican Party of Minnesota and the DFL are holding their endorsing convention for the Senate District 26 Special Election.  The Republicans are meeting in Faribault, and the Democrats in Owatonna.

Updates:

7:09 PM  Jason Engbrecht was the only candidate to be nominated by the DFL.  More information will be provided tonight.  To follow the race on twitter follow hash tags #sd26special and #sesd26.  Currently, Engbrecht is giving his endorsement speech followed by a question and answer period.

7:13 PM According to Michael Brodkorb’s Twitter Account the Republican convention has started.

7:15 PM According to a DFL delegate, Jason Engbrecht was asked if he was pro-life or pro-choice.  His answer was that he was pro-choice.  Not sure how that will play in the district considering DFL State Rep. Patti Fritz is pro-life. Fritz represents the “B” side of the district.

7:17 PM Jason Engbrecht has been endorsed by the Senate District 26 DFL.  Jason’s Facebook picture shows his love of Michigan.

7:21 PM Mark Kirkpatrick is reporting from the MNGOP convention that 2010 candidates Rep. Marty Seifert (Governor), Rep. Tom Emmer (Governor), and Tom Conlon (Auditor), Rep. Randy Demmer (CD 1 Congress) are in attendance.  Other GOP elected officials in attendance are Rep. Laura Brod and Senate Minority Leader Dave Senjem.

7:28 PM Republican Party Deputy Chair Michael Brodkorb just said the DFL has endorsed a candidate committed to raising taxes on Minnesota families.

7:37 PM Update from sources at DFL convention: Jason Engbrecht got endorsed without a challenge. During his speech Jason said that he is pro-choice with some restrictions. Engbrecht also says that cuts need to be made at the state level but believes the issue with the budget is a revenue  problem and not a spending problem.  In DFL speak, revenue problem means we need to raise taxes to meet the budget demands.

Liberals in attendance hadn’t received their allowance yet from their parents so they couldn’t.
