COULD ANOTHER DFL CAMPAIGN FOR GOVERNOR BE THE SOURCE OF RYBAK MAILING?
By Luke Hellier | January 27, 2010
Brian Melendez wants answers according to Pioneer Press political blog Political Animal. Melendez wants to know where the police and fire fighter groups got their mailing list for a letter that went out targeting Mayor RT Rybak. Could another DFL campaign for governor be the source of the mailing?
From Political Animal:
In a letter sent this afternoon to two Minneapolis pension funds, DFL chair Brian Melendez is demanding some answers.
Addressed to Minneapolis Police Relief Association chair Larry Ward, Melendez says he’ll give Ward until Monday to explain whether he got a list of likely DFL caucusgoers from the DFL’s VAN.
Ward was quoted in the Star Tribune as saying he may have gotten the list from the “voter file.” In the letter, Melendez said the unauthorized use of the DFL file “may be a crime.”
The terse letter was also sent to the Minneapolis Firefighters’ Relief Association. Those two groups were behind a mailer sent recently to likely caucusgoers attacking Rybak over a city suit against two closed pension funds. The city won the suit Jan. 1.
Rest of the story here.
As soon as DFL candidates confirm or deny if they are responsible MDE will post the information below.
