SHOCKING: POSSIBLE 8TH CD CANDIDATE ACTIVE IN CONTROVERSIAL VETERANS GROUP THAT ENCOURAGES DEFECTION FROM DUTY

By Andy Post | April 30, 2011

Since confirming that he is considering a run against 8th District Congressman Chip Cravaack, Franken staffer and Chicago native Daniel Fanning has raised numerous eyebrows in Minnesota’s political circles. Dedicated readers of Minnesota Democrats Exposed pointed, specifically, to Fanning’s involvement in the group Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW).

A veteran himself, Fanning served in Iraq from 2004-2005 as part of the Wisconsin National Guard. After returning, Fanning began engaging in activities with IVAW and taking part in speaking events as part of the “Winter Soldier” campaign, a movement modeled after the Winter Solider hearings in the 1970′s to recap Vietnam War atrocities. The IVAW promotes itself as a resource for soldiers looking to defect (what they call resist) from on-going service they have already committed to, among other things. The group is a coalition of Afghanistan and Iraq veterans that believe the current U.S. involvement abroad is based on “lies and deceit”.

Most alarming is the group’s stance on IRR (Individual Ready Reserve) soldiers-those that still have time on their enlistment agreements but are no longer on active duty. They attempt to point out loopholes in current law that would allow soldiers that disagree with our foreign policy to opt-out of duty. Their website promotes defection from service, including an anonymous quote saying, “If you get recalled my best advice is to follow your heart. Personally, I would not report.

They even link to another page called Courage to Resist which uses the slogan, support the troops who refuse to fight. IVAW doesn’t even take a hard stance against going AWOL, they simply remind readers that it is illegal and, “…however, many military personnel during the Vietnam war and the current war in Iraq have gone absent without leave.”

Last year, Fanning took part in a panel of veterans bashing U.S. policy abroad (video below) and had some choice words, saying, “I do believe we have become less safe as a nation because we’ve spread anti-American sentiment around the world and in Iraq…we’ve spread hatred.”

An attack on a veteran, and his service, and the latest in the long line of attempts to allocate guilt by association. Not a good morning for MDE.

Everyone has a right to his opinion. Fanning has made sacrifices for it, something I don’t think is all that common around here.

Nice Hector. I am a disabled veteran who prefers that you keep your pie hole shut when talking about veterans and sacrifices.

You complain about MDE then say something far worse. You are a jackass.

“I am a disabled veteran who prefers that you keep your pie hole shut when talking about veterans and sacrifices.”

I honor your sacrifice, and respect your views, but I am sorry, that’s something I cannot and will not do.

The left likes to use the derogatory term, “chicken hawk.”

Well, there is nothing worse than a “chicken dove” like this clown. Good grief.

  6. montego Says:

Apparently, we have killed Bin Laden. I hope that is true. It is a bit disconcerting that we are told his body was dumped in the ocean, in some politically correct bow to Muslim practices. BS.

That has “White House instructions” written all over it.

Regardless, congratulations to the brave Navy Seals that located and killed the most notorious Islamofascist in the world.

  7. montego Says:
    May 2nd, 2011 at 7:02 AM

Now Ayatollah Obama can claim credit for killing Bin Laden. There is no doubt that he will play this for all it’s worth in 2012. He got tough on Khaddafy. He killed Bin Laden. He will claim to be the greatest national security president since FDR won WWII.

Don’t doubt me on that one, people.

  8. montego Says:
    May 2nd, 2011 at 7:08 AM

Clearly, Ayatollah Obama wants the American public to believe that he is taking a hard line against Islamofascism.

Why? Does he have something to prove? Sure. He recognizes that many, many Americans believe that he is at least SYMPATHETIC to the goals of the Islamofascists, if not a Muslim plant himself. Therefore, he is taking measures before the 2012 campaign starts in earnest to discredit such beliefs.

Politically, the men around Obama are outstanding strategic thinkers. They are very skilled at manipulating the media and public opinion. Regardless of the low public approval scores that his policies get, he will still be formidable in 2012.

  9. montego Says:
    May 2nd, 2011 at 7:16 AM

The next thing is dealing with our so-called allies in Pakistan.

You can’t convince me that these cretins in the Pakistani military didn’t know that Bin Laden was sitting there right under their noses.

We should be done with them. They are two-faced backstabbing weasels. You can’t trust these b*stards. Never could. Let’s be done with them.

  10. Hector Says:
    May 2nd, 2011 at 7:20 AM

The successful attack on Bin Laden establishes the president as a wartime leader. In Godfather terms, he has made his bones. I don’t think there will be a lot of specific references to it by the president or his campaign, but I think you will see references to keeping America strong. Just as importantly, it weakens the inevitable Republican claims that the president is soft on national defense. The president won’t say it himself, but there are lots of folks like me who will say in response to that argument that President Obama succeeded where President Bush failed.

That said, I don’t really want to politicize this issue. I will note that former President Bush deserves congratulations and honor this morning as well. I have no doubt that yesterday’s success was built on work begun in the Bush administration. He deserves credit as well.

  11. montego Says:
    May 2nd, 2011 at 7:24 AM

While I am as pleased as the next person that Bin Laden has been sent to hell, I can’t help wonder about these people that are showing up in the streets to celebrate.

Don’t they have jobs? Don’t they have anything better to do?

I don’t understand the people that take to streets to celebrate Super Bowl or World Series championships either.

  12. montego Says:
    May 2nd, 2011 at 7:27 AM

    #10

Ayatollah Obama is NOT a successful wartime leader.

He happened to be president when our military located Bin Laden and developed a plan to whack the SOB. Obama simply approved the plan. He has not LEAD anyone on this issue.

To the contrary, he and his Regime have taken pains to claim that we are not at war with Al Quaeda or Islamofascism.

In fact, the Obama Regime is sending our tax money to AID AL QUAEDA in Libya. Good grief.

  13. Hector Says:
    May 2nd, 2011 at 7:36 AM

I am taught by my faith that every life is sacred, that each of us is created in the image of God. For myself, I won’t go around celebrating the death of any human being. I wish this world did not create Bin Laden’s or the necessity of killing them, but it does do both, something I recognize. The thing had to be done, and it was done. The world is officially a better place this morning because of Bin Laden’s absence from it, and now it is time to move on.

  14. montego Says:
    May 2nd, 2011 at 9:51 AM

    #13

We cannot “move on” until we learn the proper lessons:

    1. Fighting fire with fire works.
    2. Don’t trust the Pakistanis.
    3. Don’t ignore people who declare war on you.

By all means, celebrate the death of Bin Laden because it does make the world a better place, but do not think for a second that we are safe from Islamofascist terrorists and their sponsors.

  15. montego Says:
    May 2nd, 2011 at 10:06 AM

I hope that The Regime will release the long form of Bin Laden’s death certificate.

  16. montego Says:
    May 2nd, 2011 at 10:56 AM

It seems that the White House is now having a debate over whether they should release the photos of Bin Laden’s corpse.

Nonsense. There is no need to release them. Everybody knows that our Navy Seals blew his brains out. As pleasing as it would be to see this scumbag lying there dead in the dirt, the photos are unnecessary. He’s gone.

  17. montego Says:
    May 2nd, 2011 at 11:02 AM

This is from the Department of Speculation.

Some are hinting that there was no advance White House approval of the operation. The Navy Seals did not know for certain that Bin Laden was there until they were on the scene. He was ordered to give up and chose to fight, so they killed him. All of Comrade Obama’s posturing last night about having given the order is damage control for public opinion purposes.

In reality, according to this line of reasoning, the White House and Comrade Obama are angry beyond words that the Navy Seals offed this creep without prior approval. The only thing protecting the Seals from court martial is the overwhelming political popularity of sending Bin Laden to join Mohammed in hell.

  18. montego Says:
    May 2nd, 2011 at 11:45 AM

From now on, let’s just call Bin Laden, “The Corpse.”

  19. montego Says:
    May 2nd, 2011 at 12:13 PM

I find it very interesting that Comrade Obama, his Regime, and its flunkies in the state run media have all referred to the killing of The Corpse as “bringing him to justice.”

That is an interesting choice of words for liberals who oppose capital punishment for even the most evil criminals.

  20. montego Says:
    May 2nd, 2011 at 12:16 PM

    #10

Don’t attempt Godfather references if you don’t know what you are talking about. In order to “make your bones” in the mob, you are required to get your hands dirty. Comrade Obama sat in the comfort of the White House while Seal Team Six was doing the heavy work.

  21. montego Says:
    May 2nd, 2011 at 12:19 PM

The men in the field deserve all of the credit for taking down The Corpse, not anyone sitting behind a desk.

  22. montego Says:
    May 2nd, 2011 at 12:38 PM

    #10

The president won’t say it himself? Did you listen to his statements?

He portrayed this as his operation from start to finish. He claimed complete credit for everything, except firing the final bullet himself. He assembled the team, he gave the orders, etc. As usual, his statements are peppered with “I”, “Me”, and “My”. He is truly the Narcissist in Chief.

    Here it comes.

Now that we’ve knocked off The Corpse, the Islamofascists are really going to come after us for revenge. Get ready to show your “papers” to Janet Napoleans thugs on the street, in the mall, at work, or anywhere they deem necessary. Get ready to have to your mail opened, your bank accounts scrutinized, and your home searched without a warrant.

Janet Napolean is on the march. Heightened security is required to “protect” us. We don’t need liberty. We need security. Right, Janet. Watch this broad very carefully, people.

  26. Hector Says:
    May 2nd, 2011 at 4:49 PM

“In order to “make your bones” in the mob, you are required to get your hands dirty.”

Presidents don’t belong to the mob. Invariably, when they issue the orders, it’s someone else’s hands that get dirty.

  27. montego Says:
    May 2nd, 2011 at 4:49 PM

    #10

As usual, “Paint Chip” Hector has got it wrong.

Comrade Obama succeeded where Bush failed? WTF? You’ve got to be effing kidding.

We’ve been tracking The Corpse for almost 10 years through operations that Bush put in place. we’ve been gathering intelligence for 10 years through systems and techniques that Bush put into place. We’ve been interrogating terrorists for 10 years with methods that Bush put into place. We have people that have worked their tails off for 10 years to locate and terminate The Corpse.

How the hell you can sit there and denigrate their hard work and dedication, giving the credit to this Marxist college teacher who happened to be in office when we nailed this dirtbag is beyond belief.

  28. montego Says:
    May 2nd, 2011 at 4:50 PM

Moron, you made the analogy to the mob.

I merely informed you that you were wrong.

You should be used to that by now.

  29. montego Says:
    May 3rd, 2011 at 7:33 AM

Good grief. Now Comrade Obama is changing his story about how The Corpse was killed. Maybe he wasn’t armed at all. Maybe he wasn’t using a woman as a human shield. Maybe this. Maybe that.

Why do they have to lie? Alternatively, why did they not just report that he was killed in a shootout and leave it at that?

With these incompetent political hacks running things, it is amazing that anything gets done correctly.

That situation room scene was like the cast of a sit-com watching a football game without the popcorn. Biden, Hillary, Comrade Obama, Leon Panacea, and some actor in a military uniform. Good grief. This is what we are relying on to protect our country.

We are in serious trouble, people.

  30. Scott Says:

  33. Scott Says:

Every decision Obama makes somebody seems to lose their job and then he hooks the taxpayer for the consequences. This morning Obama is proposing to give US unemployment benefits to the Osama Bin Laden decoys in Pakistan.

Absolutely. We are definitely back in Obama-media-mania. These people are positively rejoicing. They are portraying Obama as having saved the world through his courage and skill in planning this operation while at the same time showing such respect and compassion for Muslim burial traditions.

    What a load of BS.

Actually, it’s not Hector’s fault. He’s a victim. His father was deported before Hector was born. Alas, poor Hector’s brain was fried before he had a chance in life.

Nothing is forever. Especially political popularity.

If people still don’t have jobs and can’t afford gas or food, Comrade Obama will have trouble in 2012.

  40. montego Says:
    May 3rd, 2011 at 8:35 AM

First, it’s Quaddafy. Next, it’s The Corpse.

The troubling question that must be asked is: who is next on Comrade Obama’s hit list?

The Prime Minister of Israel? Rush Limbaugh? Donald Trump?

  41. Hector Says:
    May 3rd, 2011 at 8:44 AM

“For all you liberals that think the 2012 election is over, just remember that in 1991, Bush 41 had won Gulf War I and had a 90% approval rating. Then he lost to Slick Willie in 92.”

I don’t think that at all, or at least I don’t think the killing of Obama will be a significant factor next year. It’s main effect will be negative, neutralizing the national security argument Republicans love to raise. But I believe the economy, and the weakness of the Republican candidate, not national security will be the decisive issues.

We would love to campaign against Mitt Romney whose health care plan for the Massachusetts served as a model of Obamacare, and whose business career when analyzed in the heat of a national campaign is emblematic of all that is wrong with our economy.

  42. montego Says:
    May 3rd, 2011 at 8:58 AM

Look, everybody, Paint Chip has stumbled onto something accurate. Yes, it is highly doubtful that the GOP can beat the Ayatollah if they are stupid enough to nominate a RINO like Romney in 2012. Duh. That really didn’t take much brainpower.

  43. montego Says:
    May 3rd, 2011 at 10:38 AM

Comrade Obama is going to offer the pictures of The Corpse, video of the firefight, and video of the burial at sea on a PAY-PER-VIEW basis.

He’s cut the price below WWF wrestling at $39.95 each, however, it’s going to $49.95 each to see it in HD.

All proceeds go to his re-election campaign. Enjoy!

  44. montego Says:
    May 3rd, 2011 at 10:57 AM

    Mr. President,

There are a few questions about this whole matter of The Corpse.

He was living at this location (within 200 yards of a police station) for six years and Pakistani officials claim to have known nothing?

You knew about it since last August and didn’t act until now. Why?

Why can’t your Regime get their story straight about what happened Sunday when The Corpse was killed?

Were you all watching the same screen? Or were you watching American Idol?

  45. montego Says:
    May 3rd, 2011 at 12:00 PM

Just who was the genius who decided that disposing of The Corpse in a Muslim-approved fashion would placate the anger of millions of Islamofascists after we just killed their esteemed leader?

  46. montego Says:
    May 3rd, 2011 at 12:01 PM

Just intercepted by Wiki-Leaks, the latest email to Ayatollah Obama from Al Quaeda:

Back to the topic, Hector said: “An attack on a veteran, and his service, and the latest in the long line of attempts to allocate guilt by association.”

Some questions: Specify how is this an attack on a veteran? Specify how this is an attack on the veterans service?

And please tell me how expressing concern about the man’s active engagement in a controversial, anti-American group is “guilt by association”?

It’s guilt by guilt. For the same reasons a current KKK member should be repugnant as a candidate, so is this asshole.

  49. Hammer Says:

Indeed, this stupid asshole does have a right to his own opinion. He’s also free to express his asshole opinion.

And we’re free to call him an asshole for having an asshole opinion.

    Fanning is a fucking asshole.

  50. Hammer Says:
    May 3rd, 2011 at 4:14 PM

“It’s main effect will be negative, neutralizing the national security argument Republicans love to raise.”

No it won’t. Not so long as a tin-pot dictator in Libya is making the U.S. president look like the indecisive dip shit he really is… for waging an unconstitutional war of choice….

Barack Obama will remain unpopular for the same reasons he is unpopular: He lacks leadership qualities, and his policies are proving to be domestic, economic and international policy disasters.

    5/1/11 Osama. 11/6/12 Obama.

  51. Hector Says:
    May 3rd, 2011 at 4:29 PM

When I say criticism will be neutralized, I am not saying that there will be no criticism at all. Attacks on natural security policy are engrained in Republican DNA. They quite simply can’t help themselves from making them, and the base will be easily convinced.

For Republicans, a disciplined party, the leader is the guy they don’t question. For them, George Bush was a great leader simply because as a matter of politics and policy they accepted everything he said. The results for our nation were disastrous, and I hope the Democrats never accept that leadership model.

  52. montego Says:
    May 4th, 2011 at 7:53 AM

Just imagine for a moment how the media and the Democrats would have reacted if Bin Laden had been found and killed under Bush/Cheney and if the aftermath would have been handled exactly as it has by the Obama Regime.

Democrats would hold hearings on impeachment for assassinating a foreign leader.

Euro-socialists would propose trying Bush and the Navy Seals for human rights violations.

The media would portray Bush as a reckless, bloodthirsty cowboy.

Democrats would demand the resignation of the CIA director for being so incompetent as not to find Bin Laden when he was living in the same house for the last six years.

Democrats would demand the court martial of every navy Seal involved for shooting an unarmed Bin Laden.

The media would highlight the constant changing of the story by the administration and drive the press secretary from office for obvious lies and incompetence.

These are just a few of the obvious results if Bush had done exactly what Obama has done. No double standards here…….

  53. Hammer Says:
    May 4th, 2011 at 1:26 PM

“Attacks on natural security policy are engrained in Republican DNA.”

When the Democrats national security policy is designed specifically to undermine national security interests, it’s easy to attack… and it’s an obligation to do so.

  54. Hammer Says:
    May 4th, 2011 at 1:29 PM

“For Republicans, a disciplined party, the leader is the guy they don’t question. For them, George Bush was a great leader simply because as a matter of politics and policy they accepted everything he said. The results for our nation were disastrous, and I hope the Democrats never accept that leadership model.”

On national security, George W. Bush’s policies were generally pretty good. That’s probably why Barack Obama, who ran in opposition to those policies, ultimately chose to continue most of those policies… although, he’s done more to undermine our allies and other interests around the world than anyone…

Oddly enough, the “anti-war” movement disappeared despite those facts. In fact, the Democrats are goose-marching in lock step with everything Barack Obama says… apparently, because he says it.

The “anti-war” movement has been exposed as a fraud, as the anti-American movement we all knew it was.

  55. Hector Says:
    May 5th, 2011 at 7:12 AM

“Democrats would hold hearings on impeachment for assassinating a foreign leader.”

Possibly, I try not to underestimate the political stupidity of some Democrats.

“The “anti-war” movement has been exposed as a fraud, as the anti-American movement we all knew it was.”

It’s an interesting fact, that there has never been an anti-movement of any significance at all with respect to our actions in the middle east. This is as true under President Obama, as it was under President Bush. I don’t think something that doesn’t exist can be fairly characterized as a fraud.

Speaking personally, I have been critical of many of the decisions made. I thought it was a mistake to go to war in Iraq. But for myself at least, I make a distinction between those views and being anti=war or part of an anti-war movement. Once made, I accepted the decision, and the position I then took is that once we were in it, the war should be conducted as well and efficiently as possible to a victorious conclusion.
