Dedicated readers of MDE found the below video on YouTube featuring the Occupy movement and a focus on Minnesota’s operation. Around time stamp :17, readers noticed DFL operative and go-to freelancer Nick Espinosa at the bullhorn.
This comes on the heels of other endorsements of the Occupy MN movement by various tentacles of the DFL party. Just last week, DFL organizers sent an email asking local residents to “occupy” a listening session hosted by Republican legislators on job creation in Woodbury.

Dedicated readers of Minnesota Democrats Exposed posted the below video captured on the University of Minnesota-Duluth campus during a routine visit by Phil Cleary of the group Campus Reform. The group distributes pocket-sized copies of the U.S. Constitution to students on campus in hopes of raising awareness of current issues and their connection to the document today.

Activists with the local chapter of the Black Panthers approached the table on campus last week and cornered and threatened the Mr. Cleary while he distributed to people passing by.

The young man in the video, Blair Jordon Moses, threatened to “exercise” his 2nd amendment rights if he perceived that there was any kind of threat to the Multicultural Center. He did not define what a threat would constitute but suggested that the existence of the group Youth for Western Civilization would count.

Blair was wearing a pin on his jacket picturing Huey P. Newton carying a gun. For those of you who don’t know, Newton was a founder of the Black Panthers. The Black Panthers is a violent and ethnocentric organization that promotes racial divides and anti-American rhetoric.

What prompted this approach? Blair states that blacks in America are not free and that he does not believe in the Constitution.

At the same time, a faculty member approached the group. She took some of the literature and asked Phil, “Is this a white supremacist group?” Phil answered “Absolutely not.” To which the woman replied, “It looks like one.”

Who is this woman? Susana Pelayo – Woodward, Director of the Office of Cultural Diversity.

Instead of promoting cultural diversity, which is part of her job, she chose to show her bias against a group that would promote western culture and tradition. She had no problem with the leftist students heckling the conservative, but actually seems to agree that freedom, the Constitution, and western civilization is all tied into white supremacy.

From Powerline, a new ad released hitting U.S. Senator Al Franken on his steadfast support of Net Neutrality:

“Net neutrality” is the Left’s euphemism for regulation of the internet. It is a solution for which no known problem exists. Also, you can tell it is a bad idea because it is being promoted by Al Franken.

A group called Senate Accountability Watch produced this 30-second video, which is accompanied by a statement that says in part:

Senator Franken has spent an extensive amount of Senate time and resources since 2009 to bring about the regulation of the internet. He has tried to make his argument by labeling it, “The Free Speech Issue of our Time.” Senators Franken and Cantwell introduced Senate Bill 74, Internet Freedom, Broadband Promotion, and Consumer Protection Act of 2011. This bill’s intent is to regulate the business model options of internet providers. It prevents internet providers from prioritizing content access. The unintended consequences of regulating one of the last frontiers of unrestricted innovation could be costly to users and developers.

As advancement in medical, entertainment, and communication surges so does the need for flexibility in development of bringing these technologies to end users as well. This commercial is designed to help educate the general public on the unintended consequences of stifling business innovation through legislation. It is easier to change a business model through public pressure rather than amending or repealing law. …

The internet is becoming more and more congested every day. Charles Davidson and Bret Swanson cited in their study that, “Video is more than 70 percent of traffic on the consumer Internet, but generates less than 10 percent of total revenues for broadband service providers. In the wireless realm, it is estimated that data traffic will increase by more than 100 percent each year through 2014.” Senator Franken’s push to regulate the internet would stifle quality, access, and innovation by restraining the evolution of the internet. Senator Franken’s legislation would dramatically disrupt and degrade the very thing he is trying to save.

Gov. Dayton sat on the sidelines this morning (likely in his panic room office) as GOP and DFL legislators sat in a meeting room, waiting for his attendance. The legislators had gathered after being told in advance they were to meet with the Governor about education funding. GOP staff confirmed through an email that Dayton had planned on attending. After taking a hit in the media for skipping out, Dayton’s staff responded by sheepishly stating, “Dayton would have attended the meeting if Republican legislators offered something new on budget negotiations.”

Question: How did Dayton know that the GOP proposals to be brought up in this meeting we’re new if he didn’t go?

Minnesotans shouldn’t be worried about a July 1 government shutdown, we already know where Dayton stands on that:

This evening, GOP House and Senate leaders went back to the Governor’s office (checking first that he wasn’t hiding under his desk) to propose another compromise in a series of ideas they’ve offered to keep the government open without making Minnesota the highest taxed state in America under Dayton’s plan. The GOP offered to increase the amount spent on schools and public safety by over $100 million today while Dayton’s plan is still nearly $2 billion more than that. It isn’t clear what Dayton actually wants the money spent on, only that he is demanding a tax increase. Dayton even called out the GOP plan to de-fund one of the most mismanaged and poorly run school aide formulas in the country, Minnesota’s integration aide program.

Meanwhile, DFL legislative leaders are back in their districts cooling their heals. They want to play no part in fixing Minnesota’s largest budget shortfall in decades:

Governor Dayton’s inability to lead reached a new low today when he suggested a professional mediator be hired to break the stalemate between him and House and Senate leaders during a press conference. Dayton seemed so frustrated with the slow progress of budget negotiations that he openly suggested “outside help” be brought in to clean up the mess he could not fix.

When asked for a suggestion of a possible “fair” mediator, Dayton named retired Chief U.S. Magistrate Judge Jonathan Lebedoff, whom has made campaign contributions to the following campaigns: Sen. Amy Klobuchar, President Barack Obama, and Mike Ciresi for Senate. MN State News wrote, “A review of campaign finance records shows that Lebedoff has made political contributions to the campaigns of Amy Klobuchar and Barack Obama. Additionally, at least one relative of Lebedoff was a major contributor to Dayton’s 2000 Senate campaign. Katie Tinucci, the governor’s press secretary, said Dayton ‘suggested Mr. Lebedoff as a possible mediator, but at this point, it was just a suggestion‘.”

Justice Lebedoff

Dayton seemed flustered after pulling the plug on allowing his Commissioners to appear before the Legislative Commission on Planning and Fiscal Policy meeting which Speaker Zellers and Maj. Leader Koch called to help move the fiscal impasse forward in a constructive and open forum. Dayton’s suggestion of a mediator was disturbing and reminiscent of his strong ties to labor.

GOP leaders told Dayton of their stance on the LCPFP meeting in a letter to him, saying:
“We would like information on plants to offset the loss of $1.8 billion in revenue in the Governor’s budget due to the recent change in the administration’s tax plan. Specifically, be prepared to discuss the legislature’s spending reductions the Governor will agree to, or new spending reduction proposals. On multiple occassions the Governor has indicated an interest in exempting small business from the effects (of) his tax increase plan. We are interested in knowing how this proposal changes revenue estimates for the administration’s budget, and what offsets are proposed to allow small businesses to keep more of their hard-earned money.“

Here’s what Dayton actually said:

MNGOP Deputy Chair Michael Brodkorb also responded to coverage of the left in the Star Tribune:

“How did Dayton reward this olive branch from the GOP leadership? He publicly attacked the legislators who politely asked questions of their governor by calling them “extremists” and by saying they “know little about government and care even less.”

Rather than using his powerful soapbox to rally Minnesotans together, he chose to take a swipe at the mothers, fathers, teachers, veterans, Cub Scout leaders and small-business owners who serve as citizen legislators. Dayton attacked, but the Star Tribune editorial page was silent. ”

Also, did you know candidate Mark Dayton promised last fall he wouldn’t oversee a government shutdown? You do now.

The Philadelphia Daily News is reporting in their Celebrities section this morning that SNL star Tina Fey and U.S. Senate candidate Al Franken had a somewhat testy exchange during the ’08 campaign over his request for thousands in contributions.

Fey made a comment during her appearance at the Free Library in Philadelphia. She was asked a question by a member of the audience and she answered by telling a story about her and Mr. Franken (from the story):

Fey said Franken, now a U.S. senator from Minnesota, hounded her for a political donation during his campaign but she ducked him. Fey, participating in the Library’s Philadelphia Book Festival and promoting her book “Bossypants,” said she texted Franken after he won and said “See, you didn’t need my $4,000 to win after all,” prompting Sen. Franken to text back, “F— you.”

You may remember the numerous occasions in which Al Franken lost his temper during the campaign:

Jim Oberstar’s primary residence was not in Minnesota during at least some of the time he represented the people of Minnesota’s 8th congressional district in Congress.

That’s what recent documents acquired by MDE now reaffirm. The (soon) former Congressman has held residency in Chisholm, MN for years, but for tax purposes has listed Potomac, MD as his primary place of residence. He has simply been paying property taxes for his Minnesota property from Maryland.

This issue isn’t a new one. In 2006, Republican opponent and former U.S. Senator Rod Grams approached Oberstar with this issue during a debate. You can see his response below:

Below is a copy of a tax document found through the St. Louis County Auditor, followed by one for the State of Maryland. Similar documents show his permanent residence to be outside of Minnesota at least back to 1995.

This is a video clip of Al Franken admitting that he doesn't start out talking about gay marriage when he campaigns in greater Minnesota. As I wrote yesterday, it will be interesting to see which Al Franken comes to your town. Is it the Al Franken who's not afraid to talk about gay marriage, or is it the Al Franken who won't talk about gay marriage?

This post isn’t about the politics of gay marriage (as Franken does talk about gay marriage later in the video), but rather Franken admitting that he hides his positions from voters, depending on the audience.

This is a video clip of Al Franken speaking at the Stonewall DFL candidate screening on January 19, 2008. Franken mentions posts on Minnesota Democrats Exposed (Franken refers to "MDE"), specifically my post about Al Franken mocking gay people with a joke about Elton John.

I’m not sure why Franken is complaining about Republicans taking his jokes out of context. I have always described Franken’s jokes as jokes. It’s a rather weak defense, but Franken doesn’t have many options to explain away his mean-spirited attacks.

In this portion of the interview, Drake talks more about Al Franken and gives his opinion on the campaigns of Mike Ciresi and Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer. Drake calls Ciresi’s campaign “lackluster” and says Ciresi may run in the primary if he doesn’t receive the DFL endorsement. Drake also labels Nelson-Pallmeyer a “fringe” candidate.

I could so easily destroy his senate campaign…[inaudible]…[clip shown above] I hope, I hope nothing goes wrong, I could say he’s a transsexual or something…”

It’s amazing what Al Franken thinks is funny behind closed doors at a private fundraiser.

St. Paul – Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Ron Carey today issued the following statement regarding Hollywood liberal Larry David’s negative personal attacks on Senator Norm Coleman and Al Franken’s response.

"Last night at a ritzy fundraiser for Al Franken in Minneapolis, Hollywood liberal Larry David personally attacked Senator Norm Coleman in language offensive to all Minnesotans. Franken promised he would run a positive, issue oriented campaign but his laughing reaction to David’s personal attacks again shows why he lacks the maturity, temperament and judgment necessary for the U.S. Senate."

Al Franken likes to talk about accountability. We’ll see how he reacts to people holding him accountable for his positions regarding the War in Iraq. Please read the press release from U.S. Senator Norm Coleman’s campaign after the page jump.

Saint Paul - Comedian DFL Senate candidate Al Franken is the subject of a Coleman for Senate web ad launched today that brings to light Franken’s varying and conflicting positions on the War in Iraq. The video, “Franken vs. Franken: Iraq Edition,” provides Minnesota voters with a unique insight into the multiple positions Franken has taken on the War in Iraq. Positions, quite frankly, which are starting to raise questions within his own party about his credibility on the War in Iraq.

“Al Franken has made the war in Iraq a core issue in this campaign, and has said it is one of the most important reasons for his candidacy,” said Cullen Sheehan, Campaign Manager for Coleman for Senate. “The problem is that Al Franken can’t quite seem to make up his mind about where he stands on this issue. It seems he isn’t being straight with Minnesotans about his positions on the war, or he’s hoping they simply fail to see the inconsistencies in his various positions. This web ad- in Franken’s own words – challenges Al Franken to be honest with Minnesota voters and tell them where he really stands on Iraq.”

“Franken Vs. Franken: Iraq Edition” features video and audio clips of Franken discussing his many positions on the Iraq War –including his initial support and opposition for the invasion, his statements for and against a timetable for withdrawal and his support both for and against forcing the President to cut off funds for our troops in Iraq.

The video can be viewed at http://www.colemanforsenate.com/ or on Youtube.com at www.youtube.com/colemanforsenate.
